So, you want to be a reenactor ?

Here's some basic information on what we do as Civil War Reenactors.

What do we do?

We get together with other units and attend events through out the area. Most are within 200 miles, but occasionally we will take off for Nashville, Vicksburg, or even Santa Fe! We try to attend 8 to 10 events a year. The distance we will travel depends on the size and quality of the event.

We participate in two types of events, living histories and battle reenactments. In living histories we are actually walking, talking textbooks! We will have an 1860’s camp set up and will spend the day demonstrating our soldiering skills. We may be in a city park, a museum lawn, or in a woodlot at a civil war battlefield.

There may be just a few of us showing off our cooking skills, or a few hundred of us at a School of the Soldier. We demonstrate the social and military customs of the Victorian era. Often there is a period ball so the ladies and gents can show off their finery.

At battle reenactments we will set up on a site with some historical significance, and re-create a portion of an actual battle. We use the same tactics and maneuvers that were used during the battle to give the spectators a feel for what happened there almost a century and a half ago. Like living histories, a battle reenactment may have a handful of troops, or there may be several thousand from all over the continent.

We encourage the members to get Yankee uniforms so we can do a Federal impression when needed.
