Who We Are

Unit History

The 2nd Virginia Regiment 1812-1815 is a Non-Profit, 501(c)(3), Living History/Reenactment unit portraying Virginia Militia forces during the War of 1812. The Unit was formed in 1992 as the Fort Norfolk 1812 Garrison after the opening of Fort Norfolk to the public in May of that year. Our goal as a unit is to help broaden the public's, and our own, knowledege and understanding of the causes and impact of the War of 1812 with a focus on the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. The unit has attended Living History programs in the Hampton Roads area and Baltimore, Maryland. We have also been the host unit for the Battle of Craney Island event at Fort Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia.

Membership

Membership is open to all individuals wishing to portray the period of U.S. history from 1812 to 1815.  Although we mainly focus on the infantry arm of the Virginia Militia, members wishing to portray other branches are encouraged to do so. Individuals wishing to portray civilian life of the period are welcomed and needed to add that perspective to our impression. Members younger than 16 are able to participate with appropriate adult supervision.
