Title: Transient Objects?
Joey, concentrating on the matchbook, is painfully aware of Sis watching him
with great intensity, waiting for a blink or break in his awareness. They
sit, nearly motionless, for maybe 5 minutes.
"It's gone, Joey." The matchbook was no longer on the bar, and Joey didn't
seen it move or disappear.
"How did you do that? I was watching -- concentrating on it!"
"Your consciousness became separated from the matchbook the instant you
decided to concentrate on whether or not I would steal it away."
"I feel like I just sorta got tired of watching it or just sorta gave up,
ya know?"
*laze vb lazed ; laz.ing [back-formation fr. lazy] vi (ca. 1592): to act
or lie lazily: idle ~ vt: to pass (time) in idleness or relaxation -- laze n.
More determined, Joey sits up straighter, gathers his energy, "Ok, c'mon,
do it again. THIS time I'll catch you. THIS time I will lase-in on it!"
*lase vi lased ; las.ing [back-formation fr. laser] (1962): to emit
coherent light.
"Ok, how about something larger... how about this?" Sis pushes her beer mug
in front of Joey, between his hands. "Are you ready? Watch it carefully, and
don't forget, concentrate on the mug, NOT on me."
Sis hears and sees Joey's dilemma, his voices, his admiration for her, his
youth.
As she listens to his voices she chooses one and speaks into it's energy.
She re-textures the hidden voice and says quietly to Joey, "It is gone."
Joey jumpes off his bar stool and stands there gawking at what he perceives
as the empty spot.
"Where'd it GO!!??"
"It's still there, see?"
There sits the mug, as before.
Joey feels... seasick, dizzy, and runs for the men's room.
Are Tuesdays REALLY part of the picture?
later,
