Title: Claire's Boom
Claire suddenly realized she was running after shadows. The Yellow Tom Cat had eluded her. As she looked around she found herself only one alley over from her apartment complex even though she had been running up and down alleys, over and through fences. Tucking the dart gun and .38 away in her pack, she decided to get back to the apartment and see if Joey was awake yet. Maybe he would join the hunt. The neighbors had quieted down and most of the lights were out in the alley in which she first saw the cat. As Claire rounded the corner she was amazed to see the Yellow Tom perched on the same fence as before. She snatched the dart gun out of its pouch, made sure it was loaded, leveled it taking careful aim at the green-eyed creature and slowly squeezed the trigger. All Claire heard was the loud metallic click of the release latch which in turn allowed the firing mechanism to thurst the dart toward her target. She heard only the click, saw only the bright flash of backfire. The dart jammed on the release lever and the explosive attached to it instantaneously discharged. Standing at the window, Joey watched in amazement. Claire's shriek was nearly as loud as the explosion. in.suf.flate \'in(t)-s*-.fla-t, in-'s*f-.la-t\ vt [LL insufflatus , pp. of insufflare, fr.
