Title: damp and bloody!
Rabbit is oblivious to the lakelike puddle he is sloshing through as he
struggles toward the front of the GDB. The three of us, Peale, the librarian,
and I offer no assistance, probably because we have dry feet and don't want
to wade out into the ankle-deep mudpuddle.
I take a couple steps toward the overhang to check our hogs. When I glance back
at Rabbit's progress toward us, I'm stunned to see Azi sitting side-saddle
on the bike! He's smiling at me, motioning me toward him. I can actually
hear an orphic imploration from him for me to help Rabbit.
"Boss, I'm bleeding..." Rabbit gurgles as he loses his footing and tries to
regain himself and the bike. I rush to pull Rabbit away from the falling
monster Honda as it threatens to overpower and crush him beneath it.
The vision of Azi fades as I tug Rabbit away from the bike. We fall into the
water, me on my ass and Rabbit on top. The behemoth wreck splashes down,
missing us by a few inches and creates a series of sanguine waves which wash
over my arms and chest. I wrestle myself from under Rabbit's limp body to my
knees, as I hold him above the water. The back of his jacket is soaked with
blood.
