Title: Visiting Claire

"Wow, she doesn't look so good, does she?"

"I'm surprised she lived through the blast. I thought maybe
it would at least break her neck, but I guess she must have
ducked or turned her head at the last instant."

Claire was hooked up to one or two IVs and something
threaded up and into her nose. As Sis and Joey stood beside
her bed and talked, it appeared that she was beginning to
regain consciousness.

"Claire? Claire, are you awake? It's me, Joey. Are you
with us?"

Claire's eyelids fluttered as she oriented herself. Her eyes
focused on Joey and she smiled, just looking at Joey.

"Hi Claire. You're in the hospital and the doctors say you
will be out of here in a few days if all goes well." Sis
continued speaking as she moved closer beside Joey,
into Claire's line of sight.
Claire's eyes widened, she thrust her arms up and tried to
speak. As Joey backed off, she became more and more
agitated, pointing to Sis, shaking her head, "No, nooo..." she
gurgled and whispered. "J-J-j-oey... J-j-j..."

"Take it easy," Sis said as she pulled Claire's hand and arm
away from the nose-tube, preventing her from wrenching
it out. "Don't worry, you're safe here. No one will hurt you."

"No! Nnnnno, not youu." Claire's eyes, wild, looked to
Joey. "G-g-get her out ... Sstaay away from Sssis, J-Joey!"
Claire, twisting her arms free of Sis' grasp, managed to
roll herself over so her back was to them. "Leave!"
she said, too clearly.

"Don't worry, Claire. I won't run off with Joey. I just
brought him over to see you. Calm down..."

Friday. Welcome Friday.
Hope your weekend is .. quiescent. 8-)
love ya,
de
