Title: Azi waits...
Azi lies in the back storeroom of the Owl Buffet, hog-tied, quietly awaiting
Bud, Grubb and Jim's next assault on him. When they threw him into the
storeroom, Bud said something like, "We'll git to you later, old man. First
we gotta somehow in-tice that there girlfren a' yers ta come back here to rescue
ya." Azi's lips move slowly and he rocks slightly as he chants his favorite
sutra. He no longer feels the pain from the kick in the ribs Grubb, the
pilgarlic
with bushy eyebrows and gold nose ring gave him.
The card room smells like the inside of a 120 degree gymnasium full of stinky
athletes working out and stale beer and cigarette smoke. Bud, Grubb and Jim are
sitting at the poker table. Grubb says,
"I'll raise yer ass! Ya ain't got nuthin' but them two eights showin'."
"You raisin' ten bucks? That all? Well sir, here's another twenty. Let's see
if ya can REALLY beat my eights," Bud sneers.
Jim says, "Sheeee-it, Grubb. Yer head been insolated er sumthin'? He got-chew
beat man! You can't beat 'em from what I can see. You got nuthin' higher 'n a
seven showin'!"
"Hey MAN! Shut the fuck up! You dropped outta this hand so you jes sit there
and fuckin' watch, dig? Yer twenty and here's twenty more!" Grubb slams a
dirty
wad of bills into the middle of the table.
