Title: Catch and release

Sis watches as her toxophilite martial arts master, Li,  pulls the taut
bowstring to his nose.  He is blindfolded.  His target is an apple,
30 feet away, swinging back and forth from the ceiling by a length of thin,
invisible catgut. Three feet behind the swinging apple is an easel holding a
large thick piece of wood.

"One must feel the movement, hear the shriek of the gut as it slices the
surrounding air,"  he says as he releases the arrow.  It flies through the air,
catches the catgut above the apple and THONKS into the wood. The apple hangs
from the arrow, gently knocking against the hard surface.  "Capture the object,
detain it, unharmed," he says as he removes the blindfold and takes a step
toward the easel.

Sis focuses on the arrow tip, pushing it outward.  She feels the pressure
inside the wood, knowing Li had shot too hard for it to release itself. Slowly
the arrow falls from the target, the catgut unloops itself,  and the  apple
swings away.

"Catch and release,"  Sis says, as she bows slightly toward Li.
