When Joey first started and drove Harley up the street his mind
was whirling with guilt --  for having taken Harley, his feelings for
Sis,

betrayal of Claire and fear of what might be the consequences
of each act he had committed in the last 5 minutes.  He was
not aware of the stentorian manner which Harley's engine
was running until he saw the expressions on people's faces

as he passed them on the street.  Suddenly he once again
became the ratiocinator of old:

Joey the brilliant, the smooth, too way-cool "kid" and all
noise, guilt and lust left him as Harley slowly began to
lift off.  He was transformed from fearful to courageous,
wimp to hero and from a gallimaufry of purpose to a focused
and defined destination.
