Title: Overstated apologies
Hi and Happy Monday to ya!!
He was guilty and until he apologized to his readers he was going to loose
sleep or maybe even bite some fingernails. The minute he started writing
the piece he thought about how outrageous the idea was, even if he did
plunder Sam's work for it. How to tell them, the subscribers, without
disrupting the flow of the storyline, without losing credibility?
The discussion with Harley was short and to the point. Harley was against
saying anything for fear of losing face. With Harley such ideas
represented loss of pride, like not being able to touch the 8K mark on that
phenomenal run because of the excitement of her touching the gastank with
her lips, all the time murmuring to Harley, "revs, more revs Harley -- I
need it, Harley, revs."
He HAD sucked the pearls and changed pockets! What Sam had actually
contributed was the whole thing about something to do with sucking many
objects without having to repeat and suck one object or one of a group more
than any of the others and how to shift them around. He realized it was,
pure and simple thievery, and that in fact, he was the living example of
what Sam had preached. Damn!
Best to come clean with the whole thing and then continue without looking
back or worrying about it. The piece was out and that's all there was to
it! Live the apology but don't be sorry for living! (his own motto for
the time being).

The sucking pearls piece was a steal. Stylistically I have always loved
Beckett and, in fact, I have developed a similar style. My only defense is
that I am, as many of us are, a product of all that I have read, in terms
of my writing style. If I had never read I would not be able to write!
Please disregard the sucking pearls piece -- erase it, toss it, or at least
do not for any reason share it or pass it along! I have sinned -- please
forgive me. If you want to read the original "sucking stones" piece I will
leave it to you to look for it. I have no idea from which of Samuel
Beckett's novels or essays or short stories or plays the piece came from.
I will add the warning that Mr. Beckett was quite prolific, so a search
might entail having to read several of his works, and although wonderfully
enriching, I would not consider him a "quick read."
Oh, them Chargers. Have a great day!!
love ya,
d.
