Title: the sewing room grating

He knew his eyes were open because he could see light in the
hallway. Even though his feet pained him he got out of bed and
found himself standing. Where was the light coming from? what
was that strange gurgling sound he could hear coming from the next
room? Trying to walk was useless so he kneeled and began to crawl
toward the hallway, and into the sewing room from where the light
and sounds were coming. Light coming up through the steel grate
in the floor of the sewing room, accompanied by gurgling, snorting
and

to laugh or chuckle esp. in satisfaction or exultation - chortle n.

As he approached the grating on hands and knees he realized how chilly
it was. He was, after all, stark naked and crawling around on a cold
cement floor.
"Where are my slippers?" he murmured aloud.
