I talk suit count in these seminars. You have to know my language. I don't talk suit count at the table; it is a private religion I do not wear on my sleeve.
I am bugged by authors who write complete books and never mention distributional count. I recommend Steve Robinson's "Washington Standard". I am sure he knows about distributional points, but a quick scan finds no mention of distributional count. He seems to convert to hand patterns and then say something like 11 HCP.
Distribution is important.
An expert's saying is "Six-five, come alive."
The "Law" has you thinking in the right direction. Each extra trump is a trick. Through trump length and short suit bonuses, one more trump adds 2 or 3 points. My experiments say a trick at suit is 2.5 to 3 points.
Jade Barrett has his partners use a losing trick count. This says "Distribution is important."
The play deals: It is wild hand night. Count your suit points.
