I WAS TOLD IT COULD NOT
BE DONE OVER AND OVER. I SEARCHED FOR WEEKS ON INTERNET

TO FINALLY FIND SOMEONE WHO KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT.
I HAD JUST GOT DONE WITH PUTTING A BEEFED UP 302 REBUILD IN
THE
CAR YET I HAD THE OLD 3 ON THE TREE TRANI, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A 12
INCH THROW BETWEEN GEARS IT WAS JUST A SHAME WITH A MOTOR THAT WAS
PUSHING 400 HP. THE GEARING REALLY SUCKED.
I CALLED THE FAIRLANE CONNECTION HERE
IN PHOENIX
AZ. FIRST AS I FIGURED THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL ME.
THEY
ASSURED ME IF I TRIED IT THE SHIFTER WOULD END UP IN THE BACK SEAT.
I MUST HAVE CALLED EVERY TRANSMITION SHOP IN THE VALLEY AND
AGAIN
NO LUCK THEY ALL GAVE ME THE SAME LINE YET I WAS DETERMINED TO HAVE A 5
SPEED T5, THAT WOULD MAKE THIS 4 DOOR BEAST INTO A MONSTER
AND
ONE OF THE FASTEST 4 DOOR VINTAGE CARS RUNNING IN THE STATE OF AZ.
WITHOUT CHEATING AND USING A SUPERCHARGER OR NITRO
-/NITROUS.
THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE BELL HOUSING'S FROM THE 65 FORD DID NOT MATCH
UP
WITH AN 85 AND UP T-5 TRANI'S AND VICE VERSA THIS WAS THE BIGGEST
PROBLEM WE HAD. WE MUST HAVE MEASURED THE DISTANCE 30 TIMES
BECAUSE EVERYONE KEPT TELLING US THE SHIFTER WOULD REST TO FAR BACK.
AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS OF THE RUN AROUND FROM EVERY TRANI SHOP
IN
PHOENIX I BEGAN SEARCHING ONLINE FORUM AFTER FORUM UNTIL I FOUND AN
OPTIMIST WHO TOLD ANOTHER GUY IN MY SAME BOAT A COMPANY CALLED PONY
SOMETHING OR OTHER OUT OF CALIFORNIA MADE AN ADAPTER PLATE EXACTLY
FOR THAT APPLICATION. TROUBLE WAS BY THE TIME i FOUND
ANYTHING ON
THAT COMPANY THEY WENT UNDER OR SOLD OUT NOT SURE. I KEPT CALLING
DIFFERENT PLACES IN CALIFORNIA UNTIL I HIT THE JACKPOT WITH ALL
MUSTANGS. THE ADAPTER PLATE EVEN SAID LITTLE PONY RIGHT ON IT.
IT
BOLTS UP BETWEEN THE BELL HOUSING AND THE TRANI I DID NOT HAVE TO CUT
DOWN THE DRIVE SHAFT OR ANYTHING. THE ONLY OTHER PROBLEM WE
RAN
ACROSS WAS THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT, ON THE ORIGINAL 3 SPEED TRANI IT WAS
ALLOT SMALLER. THE T5 IS A BULKY MUTHA THAT HANGS DOWN ABOUT

INCHES LOWER THAN THE 3 SPEED THAT WAS THE ONLY OTHER MOD WE HAD TO DO
ON IT. WE JUST FOUND MUCH LONGER HEAVY DUTY BOLTS
THEN USED
THE SAME BOTTOM TRANI MOUNT FROM THE 3 SPEED TRANI. YOU WILL
NEED TO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON YOUR MODIFIED TRANI MOUNT TO MAKE SURE IT
DOES NOT DROP OFF ON THE FREEWAY WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT. AFTER ABOUT
2 WEEKS I CHECKED THE MOUNT , IT WAS A LITTLE LOOSE SO I PUT
LOCK
NUTS AND WASHES ON IT AND HAVE NOT HAD 1 PROBLEM WITH IT FOR AT LEAST 3
MONTHS NOW. I REALLY THOUGHT THAT I WOULD BLOW UP THE REAR
END ON
IT BY NOW - ITS NOT POSI JUST THE OLD 8 INCH NON POSI, BUT IT IS STILL
HOLDING OUT.
ALL THAT IS REALLY LEFT TO DO NOW IS TO FIND A POSI REAR END AND TIE
RODS, BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARM IN THE FRONT END. ALSO SOME
COSMETICS NEW PAINT INSIDE AND OUT SHE IS REALLY
STARTING
TO COME ALONG NOW.
I PUT THOSE SHORT GLASS PACKS THAT ARE JUST AS THICK AS THE 2 AND A
QUARTER INCH PIPES AND THAT THING IS LOUD AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WOULD
NEED FLOWMASTERS BUT FOR AS ANNOYING THIS TOWN IS I GET A KICK OUT OF
THEM. I FIND IT FUN TO GO THROUGH PARKING LOTS SETTING OFF
EVERY
ALARM. THIS CAR DEMANDS RESPECT AND SOME FRONT END WORK BUT
SHE
IS ONE OF A KIND. I MAY CONSIDER SELLING IT FOR
AROUND
12000 AS I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT MUCH LONGER DUE TO MY FIGHT
WITH PARKINSON'S DISEASE.

Also for anyone still
running points there is a conversion kit to electronic ignition you can
order for around 65 bucks. It is made by crane and has an adjustable
rev limiter you can set between 4000 - 8000 rpm so I don't blow this
brand new motor up. I had ran this motor the first 400 miles on points
then changed it to the Crane and it is like night and day, smoother,
more power and better gas millage. They are a little more tricky to
install from what it says on there web page but in combination with
master blaster coil that car really woke up.
