"The Silver Bullet"

Coming Home

These pictures are from the Lake Afton Car show. This is when the deal was made to purchase the car. There are also pictures for the next day when we actually bought the car.

The Big Switch

This is a link to "The Big Switch" page. This documents the wild activity to switch engines, transmissions, suspensions and interiors between the blue coupe and the silver coupe.

New Seats

One of the first modifications I did to the silver coupe was the installing a pair of racing seats. These seats have more side support than the stock 1966 Corvair buckets. I bought these seats on the Internet. The installation was fairly easy. These seats will come in handy when autocrossing the car.

Race Wheels

I bought a set of Camaro Z28 wheels from my autocross tires. These are a bit lighter than the steel rally wheels I had before. I think they look much better. I have to figure out something to do about the center cap inserts.

Street Wheels

Once I got the Z-28 wheels for my autocross tires, I really liked the look. I decided I wanted to get a set for my street tires. Since the chrome wheels were 14" and the Z-28's are 15" I needed to get new tires. My youngest daughter, Shannon, is my lovely tire model. Also check out the custom center inserts!

Autocrossing

A few shots of me driving the silver coupe in SCCA autocrosses. This is the most fun you can have in your car, in a parking lot, in the broad daylight and not have to worry about getting hassled by the police. You can see more autocross photos and stories at the GoNed Race Team web site.

OP Gauge

Several people have asked me about how I set up the sender for my electric oil pressure gauge. Here are a few pictures of the different setups I've tried.

Radio

This page shows the latest modification to the silver coupe. I've always had a modern DIN style radio in the car. The problem is that the opening in the dash is not setup for this type of radio. I also removed the AC from the car, so I didn't need the center vent anymore. Here's what I did to accommodate both of these challenges.
