WHEN I WALK, by Rev. D.L. Moose
A Letter from Rev. D.L. Moose:
Well, it looks like rain. Last night the temperature dropped down to a slight chill, but we never felt it with
the warmth of the house around. I went to sleep with the rain splattering onto the roof, onto the window panes,
and across the pavement. When I listened real close, I could hear the laughter of children far off in the distance.
It was actually that quiet. They are so innocent, and without fear of the floods. They went on to play with joy.
So, my Father asked me, "What do you fear? The children are with their father and mother. As long as they
are with them, why should they fear anything? Whether they be in a storm, on tempest waters, or in the fields running
with the wind and sun. The fear is not with them, because their mother and father are with them. Their laughter
carries the faith of their hearts to your ears. You have herd them. Remember the laughter of the children on sunny
days, on rainy days, in the darkness of the night, and know that no fear was with them. Only when they feel that
their father, or mother is too far away they become scared of the darkness, but when mother, or father is with
them, their hearts are comforted. The heaviness of their sorrows are soon lifted from their little shoulders, and
they are able to fall asleep in storms and even when they have stuffy colds, or a runny nose. With the love of
a father and mother, or a grandmother, many things are accomplished. For the little children have faith in them,
and with this faith monsters in dreams are defeated. The bad guys never win, and the little cowboy's and cowgirls
play another day without fear. With this faith, you can move mountains. With this faith, there is no sadness, or
regret. Only joy. So what is it David? What do you fear?"
I replied, turning, and staring past the ceiling, and with a soft voice to carry through to my child's room, I
said: "Father, thou knowest, for thou art my shepherd; I shall not want. Thou maketh me to lie down in green
pastures: thou leadeth me beside the still waters. Thou restoreth my soul: Thou leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for thy name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou
art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of
my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."
