Sightings

11/7/07 - Tom Luffman - Rollins in Mad Magazine

Yea, I know.  I'm 34 and have a subscription to Mad.

Anyways, in a parody section called the "Not So Hot Topic Catalog" our man appears on page 51 as the "Henry Rollins Garden Owl" (pic)

It's probably not worth the cover price for those of you who aren't fans of MAD, but when you are at the magazine rack it's worth a go.  It's the December issue with the cover of a Thanksgiving scene featuring Nicole Richie puking at the table, Lindsay Lohan knocking back a drink, Paris Hilton passed out on her plate, and Britney Spears smoking a fag child on lap.

9/26/07 - Ian Young - Rollins in Uncut magazine

Hey Mark,  in the latest UNCUT mag (Paul Weller of the Jam on the cover) is a quick interview with Henry.

7/3/07 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins & Ian Mackaye at Fort Reno in Washington DC

Mr. Rollins was at Fort Reno in DC watching Joe Lally and The Evens play on Monday night. Fort Reno is a free summer series of music that is performed at Fort Reno Park. Attached is a picture that was posted on a message board.

5/1/07 - Brad Smola - Black Flag on list in Rolling Stone

Current Issue of Rolling Stone magazine - issue 1025/1026 May 3-17, 2007 (awesome cover!) has an insert in the middle titled: 40 Songs that changed the World.

#28 - TV Party by Black Flag

One spot higher than Michael Jackson's Billie Jean.

There is a God.

4/27/07 - Ian Young - Rollins in Goldmine

     Goldmine, Issue 698, Vol 33, #9 - April 27th, 2007
"10 questions for Henry Rollins" by Martin Popoff.  For your information...  Grand Funk Railroad - Live was the first record Henry ever bought.  Also said that Fanatic 2 is finished."

4/8/07 - "zaemy14" - Rollins in spring 2007 Magnet magazine

He chats about his USO adventures. Not much new stuff and a recycled picture. It's the issue with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes on the cover.  Enjoy!

2/28/07 - Debi - Rollins cover story in Swindle magazine

Swindle magazine......has a piece on Henry (he's the cover-boy). Only a factual errors at the beginning. Its issue 10.

2/4/07 - Ian Young - Rollins in Juxtapoz and Mojo magazines

JUXTAPOZ #64 May 2006 p.118 "Pirate Joe and Henry Rollins" @ SXSW 2006 and MOJO's PUNK:  THE WHOLE STORY p.232-239 (the Jay Babcock Black Flag Article) with pictures of "Bearded Rollins".

11/28/05 - David Lee Troth - Rollins in UK Hall of Fame Awards

In case any of you didn't catch the UK hall of fame awards on VH1 on Saturday night, the induction video for Black Sabbath included a couple of comments from Sabbath's #1 fan.

11/13/05 - me - Rollins in "Walk the Line" promo

Today I happened upon the Country Music Television show "Making of:  'Walk the Line'", a promotional behind-the-scenes piece on the new Johnny Cash movie starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.  Near the end of the show there was a rapid succession of interviewees and lo and behold, Rollins was one of them.  He was in and out before it fully registered in my brain that it was him, so I'm not sure exactly what he said about Cash.  It looks like the show airs again at these times:

Monday, 11/14 at 8 PM ET/PT
Friday, 11/18 at 8:30 PM ET/PT
Saturday, 11/19 at 3:30 PM ET/PT

9/1/05 - Francis A. Pappert - Rollins in Spin

I don't know if it was mentioned yet, but Henry is mentioned in the new Spin article on musician body parts and they put him in there for his neck. Great site, thanks for all your work.

8/16/05 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins mentioned on Lance Storm's site

This is from former WWE, pro-wrestler Lance Storm's website Q&A.

http://www.stormwrestling.com/081305.html

Q: My question relates to your diet - You've mentioned before that you eat very healthily on the road and in your day to day life (bar pizza at your leaving do), but, if, for example, you were pinned for a murder (actually committed by Henry Rollins - in an identity parade, it'd be 50/50), and sent to the chair, would your last meal really involve egg white omelettes and skinless chicken breasts?

A: Actually I just read in the paper that Henry Rollins is coming to Calgary, so he better behave himself or this could actually happen. (LOL) Actually I like what I eat, for the most part, but if I were about to die I would definitely eat something Italian with lots of CHEESE

7/21/05 - me - Rollins voiceover in Goodyear Tire commercial

Isn't it odd when you hear an oh so familiar voice come out of your television and it takes you a few seconds too many to wrap your brain around who it is speaking?  Well, that happened to me recently during a commercial for Goodyear Wrangler tires, narrated by one Henry Rollins ...

7/20/05 - Lisa Chan - Rollins in Village Voice magazine

Rollins is on the cover of the “Choices” section in the July 20-26, 2005 issue of The Village Voice.  The photo credit says it’s from a 1992 gig at CBGB.  The headline reads ‘CBGB & OMFUG: Thirty Years From The Home of Underground Rock’ which is the title of Hilly Kristal’s book.

5/15/05 - David Lee Troth - Rollins in Blue magazine

For all you ladies and men secure about their sexuality, there's a short article about HR in Blue magazine #55 (an overpriced gay Aussie arty nude mag). The article doesn't really have anything in it that you won't already know (WedRock, USO, etc.), but hardcore fans with $15 to blow might want it for their collections.

5/14/05 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins in Washington Post Express

In the Washington Post Express on Friday had a little article about how to get to see Pancake Mountain TV show in DC. The accompanying photo was Rollins with a huge puppet.

3/7/05 - Debi - Rollins menton on radio show

Our new public radio station, the Current 89.3, has an alt format.
Last week the DJ Mary Lucia (paul westerburg's little sis) posed a question:
'Mary asks: If you were in a bar fight, what musician do you want covering your back? Who's going to dive in and save your bacon when the chips are down?'

While Henry and Iggy both got the overwhelming share of the responses (with an especially evil/wonderful listener suggesting justin Timberlake, just so he could get a beat-down), the very best response was:

'Henry Rollins... and when the sad day comes when he passes away, my choice would be....Undead Henry Rollins. '

12/22/04 - Debi - Rollins on "Pancake Mountain"

If you go to pancakemountain.com, and kinda squirrel around, you'll find Henry doing a kids show in DC. Plus, there's a kids video from the Evens ('Vowel Movement')!

12/15/04 - Tom Luffman - Rollins on Dr. Dot's site

There is a lady that does massage for just about any star you can name- her name is dr. dot- www.drdot.com - i visited he site and there's hank- he's in the celebrity photo (star gallery 2) but also left feedback about his massage experience...  odd and slightly amusing...

12/8/04 - Kim Labrum - Henry's Film Corner synopsis

Below is a brief synopsis of the show, spoiler alert for anyone who wants to wait...

However, Heidi wasn't the guest on the 4th.  David Fincher was the guest and he and Henry reviewed the movie of Sean Penn's called The Assassination of Richard Nixon.  They both liked it quite well.  Henry also mentioned the re-release of Dr. Strangelove and what a great film it is and how relevant it is to today's political climate.  Oh, and he started the show with a rant about the election.  He said he was pissed off and hoped that all the artists out there get pissed off for the next four years and start producing some great movies, books, music and art.  A Henry silverlining, I suppose.

The final segment of the show was Henry's electrician Frankie helping Henry review movies.  Frankie is very, very British-his accent is extremely heavy but he is entertaining.  They  reviewed the new Wes Anderson film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Sissou.  People who loved the Royal Tannenbaums will probably love this one.  Henry loves Wes Anderson, Frankie is not so enamoured and said to wait and rent it.

And that's it.  It was way cool and I hope to get to see the other episodes somehow.

12/2/04 - Cynthia Thorp - Rollins on The Late Late Show

It went pretty well, considering Michael Ian Black was the guest host.  I can barely stand Black, even if Rollins did compliment him on the job he's doing.

He talked a little about his past USO trips and being in a mortor attack.

He talked mostly about how the IFC program came to be. It's been in the works for at least a year, sounded like it was longer but well it was late I'm not going to remember everything.  He started talking about films in general like knowing bad plot points, spotting film edits and that's where he lost the host. He compared it to music and lost the host even more.

He talked about Black Flag some too, particuallary about the band's artwork.  Really didn't like being called a punk band.  Didn't like the host calling them a punk band.

All in all not too bad, two segments which surprised me.  I'm personally looking forward to the Tavis Smiley show on Friday.

11/30/04 - Kevin Ready - Rollins interviewed on Atlanta radio show

On an Atlanta radio station today 99X they interviewed Henry.  They had a contest around the interview for concert tickets to a Velvet Revolver show.  Basically, since Henry likes to talk, they had 4 people guess what percentage of the interview would be Henry talking. The person that guessed the closest won the interview.  I don't think Henry knew this was going on, but it turns out he spoke for 72% of the time.  Nothing too new in the interview, I think it was to promote is IFC show.

11/29/04 - Daniel Fishbein - Rollins and Rollins Band posters in book

there's a new and pretty cool book out called "the art of modern rock : the poster explosion," which essentially compiles tons of tons of concert posters from the late 80's and 90's and talks a little about the artists. anyway, there are quite a few posters for Rollins talking and Rollins Band shows, including one signed by Rollins to the artist, which is a relative rarity in the book. you can check out the book at artofmodernrock.com, although i don't think there's any rollins-specific things on the site. check it out in a bookstore if possible, as it's pretty awesome.

11/16/04 - Matt Curtis - Rollins in UK Music Hall of Fame program again

This was the final show. He did his talking head about Queen and said how much he liked Brian May’s guitar playing. I didn’t watch the whole show. I went to bed.

11/8/04 - Matt Curtis - Rollins in UK Music Hall of Fame program again

This week it was the 1950’s and our Henry was extolling the virtues of Miles Davis.

10/25/04 - Matt Curtis - Rollins in UK Music Hall of Fame program again

UK Hall of Fame again! It was the sixties this time and Rollins was commenting on Bob Dylan among others.

10/29/04 - "somehotnoise" - Rollins quotes on Bill Hicks

here are some quotes of Heny Rollins, about Bill Hicks!

HENRY ROLLINS: "I am one of the many fans of Bill Hicks. I listen to him year after year. He was hilarious, brilliant, brave and right about everything. Send copies of his records to George W. Bush immediately. Play them in schools, over the national airwaves and everywhere else before it's too late."

"Bill Hicks was right about everything." - Henry Rollins

10/24/04 - Greg Prato - Rollins mentioned in Scott Gorham interview

In the latest issue of 'Record Collector Magazine' (Nov. 2004), they have an interview w/ Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham, who mentions Mr. Rollins. Here ya go below.

Are there any sessions fans might not know about?
I tend to shy away from them, but I played on Henry Rollins' last album, on Don't Believe A Word, which I did in Fulham. He played with us at a tribute to Phil, and everyone was scared to death of him, 'cos people just saw tattoos, bald head, no shirt, they thought he was some fucking neo-Nazi or something! So no one's talking to him, and I decided to go and meet him in the lobby - where there's lots of people [laughs] - and we spoke for the next three hours, and he's the sweetest, nicest, funniest guy, and super-articulate.

10/25/04 - Matt Curtis - Rollins in UK Music Hall of Fame program again

This week was the 70s. Rollins was commenting about Led Zepplin among others. I guess he’s going to be on it every week.

10/20/04 - Jessica Auck - Rollins designed corset for RAINN

I wanted to let you know that I found a "Henry sighting". He designed a corsett for auction to benefit RAINN (Rape Abuse Incest National Network). Tori Amos and Henry Rollins are my favorite people that I dont know personally, and so I am really excited to see Henry donating something for a charity that Tori founded. Here is the link for the ebay page that shows the corsett Henry designed:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2312&item=6333339912&rd=1

Also, this is being mediated by Fredericks of Hollywood, and here is the website dealing with the RAINN benefit: http://www.fredericks.com/celebcorsets/

10/20/04 - Matt Curtis - Rollins in UK Music Hall of Fame program again

Henry was on this again, talking about Bruce Springsteen among others. Marvellous…

10/11/04 - "zaemy14" - Rollins in Magnet Magazine

Rollins has an 1 page essay in Magnet Oct/Nov 2004 re:election stuff.  Well written with a good picture.

10/11/04 - Guy Southam - Rollins in UK Music Hall of Fame program

I'm not sure if this is particularly relevant, but it certainly took me by surprise. Channel 4 in the UK is running a series where viewers can vote for entries to the UK Music Hall of fame. The programme last night was about the 1990s, and had celebrities/journalists etc commenting on the shortlisted artists. Of all people, Henry Rollins turned up twice to comment on The Spice Girls, and said something along the lines of "Men who had a problem with the Spice Girls simply weren't secure in their masculinity" - I think he was referring to their "message" rather than their music.

I have a feeling he may well turn up on next week's 80s show, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

10/10/04 - Matt Curtis - Rollins in UK Music Hall of Fame

I was minding my own business watching UK Music Hall of Fame. This particular programme was about choosing an artist or group from the 1990’s. One of the 10 short listed was the Spice Girls. Guess who was throwing in his opinions? That’s right, our friend Henry.

9/27/04 - Rich Carlson - Rollins in Tracks Magazine, a Jeopardy question, mentioned on radio show

HE HAS BEEN EVERY WHERE AS OF LATE....First off I pciked up a magazine called Tracks (a music mag) and the final page had an articale written by Mr. Rollins talking about his latest vists to Iraq and get out and VOTE.  It/s a very good read.

Second:  Last Friday on Jepordy! in the catagory Punk was:
The lead singer of this SoCal Punk band Black Flag who is "Part Animal" and poet.

WHO IS HENRY ROLLINS!!!!  (yes the guy got it right!)

And Finally today on ESPN radio Cowheard (he's on in the morning) was talking about Rollins doing (as he said) a punk CD with William Shatner....well so the guy is a little mis-informed, but did admit that he is a "total Rollins guy, and likes what he does"

9/13/04 - Debi - Rollins in Tracks Magazine

Henry wrote an article for the Oct/Nov issue of Tracks magazine about his trip to Iraq. Should be on newsstand now.

9/10/04 - Cat - Rollins a guest on Jonesy's Jukebox

Henry was a guest this week on Jonesy's Jukebox (Jones' (of Sex Pistol's Fame) show on 103.1 Indie, where of course Rollins also has a show).   He let Henry talk quite a bit, I thought it was worth mentioning.  I haven't been able to track down a copy of it yet.

9/5/04 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins illustration in font collection

House Industries has a collection of fonts one can purchase all based on old punk flyer type. With the package comes about 15 illustrations one can also use. One the images is called "Henry" and looks like Henry Rollins mixed with Quentin Tarintino.

Go to www.houseindustries.com to take a gander. J-

note - specific image here

8/29/04 - Vampyre Mike - Rollins as character in "Def Jam: Fight For NY" video game

Rollins is going to have a role in a new video game soon. It's called Def Jam NY and it's gonna be for ps2 and xbox. Check it out on ign.com or gamespot.com you can find some screens of rollins. He's the trainer in the game and supposedly yells at you to work your fighter out heh. You can also play as rollins and kick the shit outta ludacriss etc... sounds like fun.

note - screenshot here at Gamespy

7/23/04 - Kate Morstad - Rollins seen working on new movie "Alibi"

Just got off the phone with a friend who just saw Henry in Century City filming a movie titled "Alibi" - I'll see if we can get more info.....(nice new Mercedes and rockin' old Mustang in the film.....)

7/21/04 - Bradford Pomeroy - Rollins quoted in Verbicide article (re: Bill Shields)

There is a very disturbing article in the current issue (#11) of Verbicide on Bill Shields. Initially, I thought it was going to be an article about him; but it turned out to be a research report on exposing Bill Shields as a fraud. Apparently Shields was never a SEAL or in Vietnam for that matter. His reports come from SEAL Team leaders, the owner of VeriSEAL (Bill is listed on the Wall of Shame), & even Bill's ex-wife. Rollins mentions that it does not surprise him as "he lied to a lot of good people" & "I worked my ass off for that guy"...really sad stuff. I could not believe it....Bill's work really inspired me too...

7/20/04 - Lisa Chan - Rollins in VH1 list & Black Flag in Tracks Magazine

Got a couple Rollins sightings to report:

  1. On VH-1’s I Love The 90’s: 1993, Liz Phair listed the top 3 “Dirty Alternative Rockers” in which Rollins came in at #3.  She called him a “dirty spoken word rocker.”
  2. In the Aug-Sept issue of Tracks Magazine, a picture of Black Flag appears in the Summer Of ‘84 article.

7/18/04 - Michelle - Rollins in SPIN list

In the August issue of Spin, they had a list of the 50 Greatest Frontmen Of All Time. Ole' Hank snagged the 24th postion. Here's the blurb in the list:

# 24 Henry Rollins: After hooking up with Black Flag in 1981, he became the ultimate hardcore punk grunt-a pit bull of self-loathing straining at the leash.

Another interesting note, Henry actually came up AHEAD of one of his idols-Joe Strummer was # 26!!!

7/18/04 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins dissed by Buddyhead.com

Buddyhead.com has slagged off Rollins in their latest gossip/rant column:

And speaking of old dudes on INDIE 103, they gave Henry Rollins a show too. Great, now we get to hear that jock talk about how he used to be in a cool band (Black Flag) but since then all he’s done is make lame jock metal records, lame movies, and lift weighs. Thanks for that INDEPENDENT 103. You guys are rad!

5/31/04 - Adam Johnson - Rollins in Indy 500 opening

I was as surprised as you !!!

I was sitting down to watch a little racing and guess who kicked off the show !!!

You can see some of the pictures I took here:

http://www.thepunisher.com/dsc00010.jpg
http://www.thepunisher.com/dsc00013.jpg

http://www.thepunisher.com/dsc00015.jpg
http://www.thepunisher.com/dsc00016.jpg

Not the best, but it was all I could do on short notice.  He did two promo spots.  One at the beginning just announcing the show, and one during the pre-race stuff with a cool montage of clips from racing movies and talking about the sport of racing. Very cool to see Henry dip into the mainstream for a while !!!!

5/20/04 - Michelle - Black Flag mention in Jello Biafra rant

from:  http://www.alternativetentacles.com/politics.php?sd=AMRmXc0zCQy4cYLk99A

"We played shows together with Black Flag, we networked together, tipped each other to promoters in different cities when one of us would run across somebody new. There was much more of a cohesive bond between the bands that were then called punk and hardcore because there were so few of us and it was against everything we hated about the 70's and the music establishment. We had to crack open places for us and other people to playin' town. The very idea of an all-ages show horrified New York. But once we got in and were able to do that, it exploded and all these bands came out. That happened in a lot of places, and leaders in cracking open those towns were Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, and D.O.A.."

5/8/04 - Michelle - Rollins' apperance on Air America Radio

It was only about 15-20 minutes long, and that was with commercials.
It wasn't as long as I would have liked to it to have been. They talked a little about what was going on in politics, Black Flag, the Rise Above album, and the USO tour.

Henry said in about a week and a half, he's going to go back to Iraq (for the troops again?) and....Vietnam, I think.  I really hope and pray that he's going to Iraq for the troops, because if he's going solo, that's going to be very scary, to say the very least.

Anyone else hear the show?

5/7/04 - Joe Psycho - Rollins in Relix Magazine

theres a small article/review on henry in the lastest issue of relix magazine. theres a small pic too, but its not new.

4/21/04 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins mention in Lance Storm interview

http://www.stormwrestling.com/042004.html

Oddly enough, on a wrestling website. Lance Storm gets asked if he like Henry Rollins' music.

Q: Do you like Henry Rollins’ music?
A: To be perfectly honest I’m not sure I’ve heard any. Does he like my matches?

4/14/04 - Amy - Rollins in "Left of the Dial"

Hi Mark   I picked up a copy of "Left of the Dial" #7/Winter 2004/Rare Punk Photos and it has some pictures of Henry, mostly with Black Flag and a one of him doing an early spoken word performance.  Also picture of Minor Threat, X, the Ramones, etc.   Those were the days.  Sigh.

4/8/04 - Wienerpie - Rollins on L.A. TV

I was watching a Los Angeles City television program called Connie Martinson Talks Books.  While she was interviewing Michael W. Dean, author of $30 Music School, he compared the length of his musical career with Henry Rollins'.  While websurfing, I found that he has actually interviewed Henry. I have yet to read either the book or the interview, so I can't vouch for the actual interview. The book is listed at Dean's website http://kittyfeet.com.

3/27/04 - Michelle - Rollins in Spin Magazine

In Spin's April 2004 issue, there is an article entitled, "Essential
Hardcore". The writer, Andrew Beajon, suggest the ten albums that are a "must have" for anyone who wishes to expand their punk rock record collection. Here's a blurb from it.

Black Flag, Damaged (SST, 1981) In a story made for Hollywood, Ian MacKaye's childhood neighbor Henry Rollins horned his way into the van of this Southern California juggernaut and became the face of punk for thousands of suburbanites. On Damaged, Rollins flexes his neck and confronts his inner darkness, while animalized guitarist Greg Ginn proves that power is just as important as speed.

Among the other albums listed are Minor Threat's "Complete Discography" and The Minutemen's "Double Nickels On The Dime".

3/25/04 - Frank Pappert - Rollins in Revolver Magazine

Rollins was voted "Who should be president" by the readers of Revolver in the May 2004 issue. The also have an interview with him.

3/12/04 - Kathy - Rollins on VH1 "Totally Gayer"

I watched it. Henry was so funny! He described watching Madonna kiss Brittany Spears as similar to watching an old hag 'scam' off some 'young beach chick'. But funniest of all was listening to him describe how women who work in his office tell him every time they tell new aquaintances that they work with Henry Rollins, that new aquaintance's first question is "Ohhh. Is he GAY?" And he's normally so self-effacing, it was almost refreshing to hear him explain that myth perpetuation as being due to "wishful thinking on the part of some gay guys!" I laughed out loud.  I might have to tivo it if it comes on again though because the brief series of video clips, to music, they showed while introducing Henry really was breath-taking!

3/2/04 - Courtney - Rollins in Teen Girl Squad cartoon

An unusual sighting, to say the least.

http://www.homestarrunner.com/tgs5.html

For those of you who don't frequent homestarrunner.com, it's pretty funny. Teen Girl Squad is one of the cartoon series they've got. It's an offshoot from one of Strong Bad's e-mails (which I highly reccomend you check out).

2/27/04 - Joe Psycho - "Your Number Is One" on VH1 show

VH1 All Access 'hot babes, average joes' dubbed in an audio clip of 'your number is one' during one of the outros to a commerical break, but no hank to be found... i guess they just liked the song.

2/27/04 - Sheena - "TV Party" parody on "Futurama"

In series 5 of Futurama, episode 15 is called "Bender should not be allowed on TV". Bender gets a part on a TV soap and acts completely obnoxiously as usual. In a montage sequence in the middle of the episode, and then again over the end credits, there's a cover version of "TV Party" - sung by the Futurama cast members, I think.

Here's a link to some sound sequences from that episode; I haven't listed to it, but the last one says "closing song" so that's probably it.

http://www.gotfuturama.com/Multimedia/EpisodeSounds/4ACV06/

2/25/04 - me - Rollins puppet on Comedy Central's "Crank Yankers"

Happened to catch a Crank Yanker's segment tonight with a personal trainer puppet obviously patterned after Rollins, right down to the Flag and snake tats.  See the "Jack Gravat needs a personal trainer in a new episode of this crank calling series. Features Kevin Nealon" clip here.  Screen grab here courtesy of Joe Psycho.  Adam Corolla of Loveline is a co-producer of Crank Yankers.  Rollins has been a guest on Loveline many times ...

2/16/04 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins in "Punk Rock Aerobics" book

Rollins is mentioned in the book "Punk Rock Aerobics." His picture is along with Iggy Pop and Kim Gordon for most athletic punkers out there. I believe there are only six artists shown because most punkers aren't  that fit. I would disagree with that but I didn't write the book.

1/23/04 - Sebastian Ohm - Rollins fitness video, new "Black Flag" album

A few days ago I noticed a newsbite on german music-television VIVA (strange enough), detailing Henrys plans to release a workout/fitness-video as well as a Black Flag album... This wasn't accompanied by sources of any kind so I cannot confirm the validity.

The message was along the lines of "People who see hardcore rocker Henry Rollins' sixpack abs on stage know he spends a lot of time working out. People who are familiar to his work know he'd never release a fitness video... yet he is apparently indeed planning to and currently negotiating the details. In addition to that work is being done on a new Black Flag album."

Well... don't know what to make of this.

1/11/04 - Daniel Fishbein - Rollins in new Charles Peterson photo book and Alternative Press

hey, great work as always. anyway, charles peterson has done a lot of great photographs over the years of musicians, mostly 'seattle-scene' and other indie people, and has now put out a book 'touch me i'm sick' (after the mudhoney song) which features two great shots of rollins which most may not have seen before, as peterson arguably does not sell his work to major magazines as much as most do. one is black flag era, '83 i think, and another rollins band, '93. also, there are a few short interview excerpts throughout the book, and one is rollins from flipside in '84, where he talks about not drinking, drugging, etc. if you go to charlespeterson.net and select the 'old site,' you can see the rollins '93 photo under 'rock'. also, in alternative press, they always have a little section looking back at the formative years of the magazine, and this month's (simple plan cover) has a photo of a note that rollins sent requesting a couple copies of the issue where he was interviewed. i think it was from '88. it's short, but funny in that he notes he read it at ian mackaye's, offers to pay for the copies, but implies if the magazine were his he'd send them for free.

1/7/04 - Rich Carlson - Rollins Band "Liar" clip on Imus In the Morning

this morning on Imus radio show at about 525 AM CST..they played Liar for the "bumper"music going into the commercal break

12/21/03 - Joe Psycho - Black Flag "TV Party" video clip on VH1

hey ive got a sighting for you

i was watching vh1 and the fred durst episode of driven was on. they were talking about fred getting an apartment and having parties all the time when they showed about a 3 second clip of the black flag video 'tv party' with a slipbizkit song as an audio overdub for the segment. you know the video... its all the guys on the couch basically- its too short to pick out henry, but we both know where he was sitting.

12/16/03 - John Schuller - Rollins on William Shatner album (from Matt Chamberlain site's news entry)

dec 11-2003
I have been in Nashville for a little over a week playing with William Shatner---that guy is amazing...everyday has been a different lineup of people---the main core is Ben Folds-Sebastian Steinberg-John Painter-and me but last night was surreal--I played a improv drum solo to Shatner and Henry Rollins ranting and Adrian Belew freaking on his guitar--wow! a couple of days ago it was Joe Jackson and the group doing some Jazzy improvs to Shatners words-----reality is stranger than fiction---bye---Matt C

12/4/03 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins Band "The Only Way To Know For Sure" fan re-design

I redesigned Rollins Band live in chicago cd for one of my classes and it won some awards. It is going to be published in STEP magazine's January/February issue and I wanted to get Henry a copy of the CD. I did two versions of the disk, a regular and special edition one.

No, I am not crazy.... I am getting my Master's Degree in Graphic design at the School of Visual Arts. The class was with Stefan Sagmeister who has worked with Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Lou Reed among others. He also has great Henry stories.  There is a quote from Henry in his book that says: (in regards to the Lou Reed cd he did) "I, like a flag in the wind, loved it too."  Stefan also mentioned seeing Henry in Austria in 1986 or so and after a spoken word show, Henry beat the shit out of some punkers who were mocking him.

If you want to check them out, go to my website

http://www.jeffreyeverett.com/packaging.html

They are the last two on the right.

11/21/03 - Rich Carlson - Rollins Band shirt on What Not To Wear

Hey I was watching What Not To Wear on TLC...they made-over of this punk girl who had an old Rollins Band shirt (Life Time era?), WHICH THEY THREW AWAY!!!! She also had the Black Flag bars tattooed on the back of her neck. They made no mention of Rollins but the images were there for all to see.

11/16/03 - Matt Hudson - "Nervous breakdown" (by Black Flag) on MTV

Hey, I'm not sure if this is noteworthy, but MTV played Nervous Breakdown on the show Wild Boyz tonight (11/16/03). It was pretty cool, you could hear Keith Morris tearing it up. Anyway, just thought I'd pass that along.

11/7/03 - Brandon Sideleau - Rollins in Alien Versus Predator?

I just got done reading "Broken Summers" and its great. I found it interesting that at the end Henry states that he may be appearing in the upcoming Alien Versus Predator film......i'm not sure if he got the part, but he did audition so I thought that news might be legible.

10/31/03 - wuelf2000 - Rollins mention by Gina Gershon in New York Post

From PAGE SIX, the New York Post gossip page:

GINA Gershon wanted Henry Rollins to appear in her movie "West Memphis Three," but the punk-rock pioneer turned her down because he mistakenly thought she was a Scientologist, she told Chaunce Hayden on Howard Stern's radio show the other day. Rollins has worked to win the freedom of three Arkansas teens convicted of killing three 8-year- old boys in 1993, as have rockers Eddie Vedder, Tom Waits, Steve Earle and the late Joe Strummer. All say the West Memphis Three, now in their 20s, were wrongly convicted by a jury that was convinced they were devil worshippers.

10/31/03 - Courtney - Rollins liner notes in Wesley Willis "Greatest Hits Volume 3" CD

As many people know the great Wesley Willis passed away a few months ago.  Alternative tentacles has put out a "best of" collection that was set to release even before he passed.  Well Jello and Henry Rollins did the liner notes.  Thought I would pass it on.

10/28/03 - Jeffrey Everett - Rollins Band mention in US Weekly

The guy who is in the new Joe Millionaire says The Rollins Band puts him in the mood. The snippet contains a small picture of Rollins singing (looks like from a video, it is green lit and he is wearing a black t-shirt) under a Celine Dion picture.

10/19/03 - Debi - Rollins' top 5 movies in Uncut magazine - scan

The November issue of Uncut has an article w/him about his 5 favorite movies. They are: Animal House, Apocalypse Now (no surprise there, i guess), Stroszek, The Seven Samurai, and Sling Blade. He talks about each one, and why they're important to him.

10/14/03 - Sanjay Krishnan - Rollins appearance in Jane's Addiction "Three Days" DVD

Don't know if this has been posted or not, but in the "lost scenes" section of the new Janes Addiction Three Days DVD, there is a quick shot of Henry coming backstage to say hello to the band.

10/14/03 - Zoli - liner notes of Therapy? DVD by Rollins

Something else, did you know Henry wrote the liner notes for Therapy?'s new live DVD? Not out yet but due soon. I will scan it for ya when I've got it.

note - Therapy? "Scocophobia" DVD released October 13, 2003.  See here for more info.

8/14/03 - Julie Fetch - Rollins poster in Australian tv show

in case someone else in australia hasn't already told you of this ... we have a tv show in australia called 'The Panel' (it aired last night) that henry appeared one time he was in Australia  (a few years ago now but I'm pretty sure you have it somewhere on your site).  anyway, the henry link is that they have updated the opening of their show.  they've got this cartoony thing going on and they've included a rollins billposter on a wall.  quite surprising as I didn't catch poster for anyone else of interest.  I guess i'll have to check out next week and confirm whether he's the only one that appears.

8/4/03 - Daniel Fishbein - Rollins on July cover of Professional Photographer Magazine

check this out - just came across the July 2003 issue of the UK 'Professional Photographer' magazine, and hank's on the cover! it's a shot from on set of 'full metal challenge' - the article is something to do with film-still photographers - there's no other hank pics or mention of him other than a note on the inside saying that it's of him and who took it. i can't remember the name, but he's just one of the photographers they talk about doing the 'movie location' shooting. anyway, all i could get was a google 'cache' of the page, as this is now an old issue, so the links will just lead back to the latest stuff. hopefully this long link works so you can see i ain't makin' this up!

7/28/03 - Courtney - Rollins credited with backing vocals on new Minor Threat CD

You probably already know this but on the Minor Threat demos that came out, along with the pictures, Hank is credited with backing vocals.  I can't hear it, maybe I'll catch it in future listens.  He also intro's the CD with "this is Minor threat, take 1, again."  Something like that.  I just didn't see it on the site.

7/5/03 - me - Rollins quotes in SPIN Jane's Addiction article

Rollins is quoted twice in the SPIN August, 2003 Jane's Addiction cover story "The Dance of Decadence:  The Uncensored History of Jane's Addiction":

pg 78:  "Jane's was the only band I saw in those times who had that I-will-follow-them-anywhere type of crowds.  There were a lot of great bands around at the time, but Jane's had this tribal thing happening with their fans.  It was very powerful."

pg 80 (re: Lollapalooza 91):  "I had a great time.  It was wonderful to play and then get to see the Butthole Surfers and Ice-T back-to-back, and then later on see Jane's Addiction-every night."

7/1/03 - David Lee - "Mace Griffin" review on "X-Play"

Just wanted to let you know the video-game review show "X-Play" on Tech-Tv reviewed the "Mace Griffin" video game in which Henry does the voice-over of the main character.

From the looks of the previews they showed, the graphics and gameplay of this game are excellent. The show commented on the fimiliarity of Henry's voice amongst other things. All things considered, the game earned a rating 4-out-of-5.

6/24/03 - me - young Rollins pics on new Minor Threat CD

The new Minor Threat "First Demo Tape" CD features two amusing pics of a young Henry Garfield.  The back cover has a shot of Hank, in white T-shirt and studded leather bracelet, staring at his watch as Minor Threat play.  The inside pic is even better - Hank in a makeshift dress and Mickey Mouse ears, I believe.  Punk rock!

5/15/03 - Tara K - Rollins blurb in Mark Sullivan book

Got this in my email and thought I'd share:

-JONAH SEES GHOSTS, a novel by **Mark Sullivan** $13.95, A Trade Paperback Original, 196 pages, ISBN: 1-888451-04-1  A shocking, touching, and humorous debut novel that blends magical realism with a figurative study of the ways alcohol abuse shapes the personalities within a family.

****Henry Rollins raves: "Mark Sullivan writes with beautiful, introspective clarity. In young Jonah, he captures perfectly the conviction of perception that only the young have."***   If you're interested in the book, you can order, etc., at www.akashicbooks.com

4/25/03 - from Hope Smith - more Rollins on VH1

Henry was also on the 50 sexiest videos program on VH1. He said VH1 does a whole bunch of those things at once. Can you imagine in a span of a few hours being asked everything from your opinion on the Care Bear to the video for "It's Getting Hot In Here"? My brain would hurt!

4/25/03 - from Kathy - Rollins on VH1

Hi , this week I got to see several parts of several different episodes of VH1's I love the Eighties. Occasionally, they played clips of Henry briefly describing various eighties phenomena. At one point the interviewer hands Henry a Care Bear! Henry explained it was an eighties-specific childrens toy to provide comfort to children while being evicted from their homes. I love that, because too many people refer to the eighties as a time of great "prosperity." I remember it as a decade of working-family-homelessness and loss of family farms.

One other clip was of him asking if Moby gets royalties from the sale of Cabbage Patch Kid dolls, as they all seem to bear his likeness. I funny observation, but, Hank, lay off Moby. I like him!

4/7/03 - from me - Jarboe quotes Rollins

Jarboe, formerly of SWANS, quotes Rollins in both of the 3/31 entries in her online journal The Artery.

4/2/03 - from Scott D - Edge reads Rollins

WWE wrestler Adam "Edge" Copeland recently had neck surgery and is writing a weekly column on WWE.com.  After his Wrestlemania thoughts, he listed listed some of his favorites.  This is his response on books:

"Books: You name it, I'll read it, music, boxing, wrestling, fiction, autobiographical, comics, everything.  I've read five books these last two weeks.  My mind is still going 110 mph, but my body is in neutral.  I like Chuck Palahniuk, Stephen King, Henry Rollins, I have a biography of every Boxing Heavyweight champ since Jack Dempsey; Thomas Harris, Richard Matheson, C.S. Lewis, all the Harry Potters, Lord of the Rings, books on Lennon, McCartney, Cobain, Freddie Mercury, etc, Neil Gaiman, I think every wrestling book ever written, etc."

3/18/03 - from Matt Mulligan - Rollins on Triple J

On Saturday afternoon 15/03/2003, Henry appeared on Triple J - a youth radio
program that broadcasts to the entire nation of Australia on the frequency 105.7FM.
Henry phoned in to promote his upcoming speaking tour and spoke with presenter Richard Kingsmill for a good 1.5hrs.

He discussed the following:

His first & second meeting with Iggy Pop (early 80's); Layne Stanley & AIC awesome live bootleg albums. His love of The Fall, the first time he saw Beasts Of Bourbon, his time spent in Adelaide producing the Mark Of Cain Ill At Ease album whilst periodically announcing songs that would qualify fo his onroad mixed tape of goodies, the list as follows:

*         Alice In Chains - Them Bones
*         Beasts Of Bourbon - Chase The Dragon
*         Dinosaur Jnr - I Don't Think So /Alone
*         Ramones - Sheena Is A Punk Rocker
*         Kim Salmon & The Surrealists - Intense
*         Mark Of Cain - Interloper (Remix)
*         Stooges - Fun House
*         The Damned - ??
*         The Buzzcocks - ??

2/18/03 - from Ed Arroyo - Rollins on VH1

Monday, Feb 17th, on VH!, they rebroadcasted The 100 Hardest Rock Bands of all time, and he commented on a  few bands, such as the Ramones and Alice In Chains,  don't remember what other bands he spoke of.

1/31/03 - from Michelle - Black Flag "TV Party" video on MTV2

I got home from work and put on mtv2 and I see the video for TV Party.
It was on a show called Back in Play and was on at about 30 after the hour.  I have a directv dish so I get east coast feed and the show came on for me in AZ from noon to 1 and the video was on at about 12:30.

1/27/03 - from Tony Buechler - Rollins on Bob and Tom radio show

Henry phoned in to the Bob and Tom morning show for about a 10 to 15 minute
interview on Thursday AM (Jan 23, 2003). He was supposed to be in the studio with them (they broadcast out of Indianapolis IN where HR's show was that night) but incliment weather kept in Chicago.

Bob and Tom are a HUGE nationally syndicated comedy/talk morning show. I think like 130 stations with over 3 million  listeners at prime drive time (when Hank was on).  It wasn't rolling over funny but interesting and somewhat subdued. Tom from the show had done some homework on Henry's work and asked some solid questions and got great answers. I had been emailing and talking up this show (know a few people on the staff personally) to get Henry on there for years and was glad they finally had him.

1/9/03 - from Gayle - "Bad Boys II" trailer

We went to the movies and saw a preview for Bad Boys II. Henry was in the very first scene of the trailer. It looks like he is a cop who is standing at a blackboard outlining police activity. You can't miss him.  They played the preview at Lord of the Rings.

1/10/03 - from Adam Johnson - Rollins sun logo on hockey player's helmet

And, while watching the Phoenix Coyotes hockey game Wednesday night, I noticed their new goalie Zac Bierk has a Rollins sun on the back of this helmet.  Very Cool !!!!   (see top photo here)

12/18/02 - from me - Rollins on VH1's "I Love the 80s"

VH1 has a series this week (two 1 hour shows each night, a show per year of the decade) that has the occasional input from Rollins.  In the 1983 episode last night Rollins examined a Cabbage Patch Doll and said something to the effect of "it's great that they made a Moby doll for people" and, later, "does Moby know about these?  Does he know he was happening in the '80s?"  During the "Scarface" segment he explained how it made you want to be the lead character.  Later he gave his theory on how Jerry Falwell lost his virginity (prostitute).  Typical Rollins quips.  I'm sure he will be in more episodes through the week ...

11/5/02 - from Scott D. - S Summary of Rollins visiting Detroit's Kramer & Twitch on 97.1 FM Talk.

"Henry was way cool. He talked about various things including Black Flag, the WM3, he took calls with K&T and met a fan. She was about to faint. His friend does the snake expo and he was doing him a favor. All in all it was pretty cool. I like when K&T have a celebrity on and they don't go ape s**t over them. They treat them fair but they just have fun."

For pics of appearance click here: http://www.971fm.com/kt_miscphotos.htm#rollins

11/3/02 - from Chuck - Rollins at Reptile Expo

Hey, I just wanted to pass on that I went to the reptile show on Saturday, got to meet Henry who took alot of time out to help me and my wife pick out what will be our first snake. He was incredibly cool and knew tons about all the snakes we saw. I encourage everybody to check out Evan Stahl's company.  They're really great people.

11/1/02 - from Courtney - Rollins Halloween greetings on VH1

Watching some Michael Jackson bullshit on VH1.  A 15 second spot with Hank.  Just a medium shot with some fire behind him.  Basically he just said "THIS IS HENRY ROLLINS. HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN AHHHHHH PEACE!"

10/31/02 - from LoSt BoY (Mike) - Rollins Halloween greetings on VH1

Rollins keeps popping up on VH1, "THIS IS HENRY ROLLINS! Happy halloween from VH1. Peace!" etc... I've seen him twice this morning while watching the lost boys on vh1 ;)

10/25/02 - from Michelle - Rollins in "Jackass:  The Movie"

Henry shows up at about one hour in.  If his part in the tattoo segment was a minute I would be surprised.  They play Drinking and Driving during it.  I thougt this was sort of interesting, because my mother wouldn't let me listen to stuff like Black Flag back in High School so I'm making up for lost time, at the end of the movie the song was credited to Greg Ginn and Henry Garfield.

10/27/02 - from LoSt BoY (Mike) - Rollins in "Jackass:  The Movie"

I seen jackass last night, and i wanted to check out rollins' scene. It's awesome, he drives a little jeep while the guy in the back seat is getting tattooed. While drinking and driving - black flag is being played ;) The tattoo looks horrible and is bleeding etc.. rollins drives over tons of bumps and hills and screams and curses a little, right on  go henry!

10/22/02 - from Kevin Ready - Rollins on MTV2 show "The Wrap"

This weekend I was watching this show called The Wrap on MTV2.  Its sort of like a week in rock review.  Anyway it mentioned the Rise Above album, and that it was strange Metallica didn't appear on the album.  Apparently they did all the music on the Paradise Lost documentaries.  Rollins said he contacted them and got no response, and Metallica says they got no such message.  Then Henry said a little bit about the album and that was it.

10/15/02 - from Michelle - Rollins in The Making of "Jackass:  The Movie"

This past Sat. I saw The Making of Jackass The Movie on MTV and Henry was in it.  If you blink you could miss him though.  Once towards the begining, talking to that Steveo guy in a SUV, and once while the credits are running at the end, he is driving this jeep thing as the guy is getting tattooed.

10/12/02 - from Debi - "Full Metal Challenge" ad in Rolling Stone

Nice full-page ad for Full Metal Challenge in this weeks Rolling Stone (the Women in Rock issue, though it should be called Women in Pop).

10/10/02 - from Christine - Rollins mentioned on Howard Stern

Just thought I mention that Henry has been discussed on Howard Stern this past Monday & today.

Apparently, Henry did an interview last week with a guy named Chauncey
who I believe is from Stepping Out magazine. Chauncey asked Henry why he was not doing the Howard Stern show since he has been giving a huge amount of interviews. Henry replied that he was not going on Howard because he does not want to be asked who he is "banging,", & etc. Chauncey had taped the interview so he played the tape for Howard on the air. Howard said he liked Henry & respects what he does;  therefore, he was surprised by Henry's comments. Chauncey added that since Henry is promoting the West Memphis project, perhaps he felt that Howard's show was not appropriate.

This morning Chauncey called in again & said that Henry called him & took
his comments out of context. Chauncey would not play the voice mail left by Henry & likened Henry to a drill sergeant. Howard still seems upset that Henry does not like him. Robin, on the other hand, is not surprised by Henry's comments. A discussion then followed about how Chauncey is afraid Henry is going to kick his butt.

10/3/02 - from James - Jim Wilson at Cheap Trick show

drove out to LA from phx for 2 nights of cheap trick at the anaheim house of blues. the 2nd night, the opening band had jim wilson (who was announced as also playing for MS but no r-band mention). the singer/guitarist never mentioned the name of the band onstage and i didn't recognize him but turns out it was brother wayne kramer. he looked heavier than i had seen him in pix. they had a few good songs (and a few that didn't hold my interest) and they did kick out the jams.

10/2/02 - from Daniel Boyd - Eddie Vedder mentions Rollins in Rolling Stone

There was also a little blurb in the RS Readers' Top 100 albums of
all time.  Number 50 was Pearl Jam's Vs. and there is a quote from Eddie Vedder that mentions our boy Hank.  Here it is:

"I takled with Henry Rollins one day.  I said, 'Dude, I need some perspective real quick.'  And I really felt bad doing it.   Because I was calling him up for the same reason kids call me up."

9/28/02 - from Sue D. - Rollins voiceover on Life Cereal commercial

The only commercials I've heard Henry's voice on lately are for Life Cereal.  The tag line is "isn't Life surprising?" or something like that....

9/11/02 - from Debi - "Full Metal Challenge" mention in TV Guide

In this week's TV Guide, there's a brief mention of Rollins. In the Cable section, they list Full Metal Challenge as a Best Pick for the new season. Yay!

9/3/02 - from Debi - Rollins on VH1 "Rock Bodies"

Ok, it was mostly about the really stupid stuff famous people do to lose weight (enemas, speed) or look younger (botox), but at the very beginning they _do_ show Rollins. No interview or anything, just some concert footage with a voiceover about 'rippling muscle'.  It'll probably be rebroadcast about a million times.

8/18/02 - from Courtney Pollard - Rollins quoted in "Mind Over Matters" book

Just got done reading Mind Over Matters by Mike Nelson (he was the host and head writer for MST3K). Great book. Really refreshing after several months of Henry Miller, Knut Hamsun, and anthropology textbooks (am I morbid or what?). Anywho, Nelson "quotes" Rollins in a chapter poking fun at the "Behind the Music" shows on VH1. (page 77 to be exact) Not real flattering, but still funny, especially the Janet Jackson/cotton ball comment.

I'm gonna be lazy and not type out the whole chapter (all two pages of it) for you. You'll probably be able to find it in the Humor section at whatever bookstore you frequent if you wanna check it out.

8/10/02 - from Wienerpie@aol.com - Rollins voiceover on Batman Beyond

I was watching Cartoon Network today, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and recognized Henry's voice.  I stayed through the credits to be sure and it was confirmed.

7/23/02 - from Jonas Ponas - Rollins mention on Love Boat 2

I happened to see 5 minutes of a show that I think is called Love boat 2. A couple of people were sitting at a table eating and talking, and one of the girls said: "I once spent an afternoon discussing the world economy with Henry Kissinger." The other girl was ofcourse out to top that, so she said: "I once spent an afternoon discussing my tattoo with Henry Rollins." Needless to say, the rest of the people around the table looked at her like she was crazy or something, and then started talking about something else.

7/1/02 - from "zaemy 14" - Henry and Ed McMahon

I was at home Sunday , recovering from heat stroke and watching some high quality TV - "Next Big Star" in particular.  For those not in- the-know, it's just like Star Search and hosted by Ed McMahon.  There's always one segment where he teleconferences in a celebrity who offers words of wisdom to the aspiring entertainers and who should be the special guest on Sunday?  Yes!  You are correct, sir!  It was Henry Rollins.   He talked about the importance of lyrics and how really great lyrics make you think that the writer knows you. Ed said he really liked that advice, but the best part was at the end of the show when he thanked "my really good friend, Henry Rollins".

6/16/02 - from Rich Carlson - Rollins mention in Kari Wuhrer article

In the current issue of FHM magazine (similar to Maxim), there is an article about Kari Wuher.  She was once on MTV's Remote Control has done a few movies (2 of which are due out this year.  In the article the author writes, "A source of drool for geeks everywhere durring here three years on Sci-Fi channels SLIDERS, Kari sparked adolescent wet dreams the world over with her lesbian scene in the movie KATES ADDICTION. She dated Henry Rollins and even recorded an album,Shiny in 1998."

6/6/02 - from Scott D. - Rollins in "Jackass:  The Movie"

In a scene of the future "Jackass the Movie", Rollins drives a Hummer through a desert while Steve O gets tattooed in the backseat.

5/24/02 - from Karen - Rollins on Galaxy Quest?

The latest addition to sightings is a question on whether or not HR is the voice of the computer in "Galaxy Quest". The answer is no according to IMDB's credits entry for the movie. The voice of the computer is listed as being someone named Joe Frank, who apparently does a minor amount of voice work, and is a 'radio personality'. Thought you might like to know.

5/?/02 - from Cecilia - Rollins on Galaxy Quest?

Hi,
cool site.  Okay, first you have to promise me that even if I'm wrong you won't consider me as an asshole.:)  So:  I'm not 100% sure, but is it possible that the voice of the computer in the movie Galaxy Quest is H.R.??  I may be deaf, but my friends who listened to it also think it's him.  I don't see his name in the cast list, though.  What do you think?  Take care,                         Cecilia,23, Hungary

5/20/02 - from Scott D - Rollins mentioned on Howard Stern

On 5/20/02, Steve O From MTV's ''Jackass'' joined the show with his ladyfriend Dee. After 30 minutes, she says she went out with Henry Rollins. Steve O then told a story of Henry driving a Hummer while Steve O performed some stunt. I can't remember the details.

5/20/02 - from Pamela Leahigh - Rollins on VH1's "100 Greatest Women of Rock & Roll"

Also he was on VH1's countdown of the greatest women of rock n' roll. I don't if he is in the whole countdown but he does make comments about some of the top ten.

5/16/02 - from "x y g g l e t r o p" - Rollins on VH1's "100 Greatest One Hit Wonders"

My bro sez that Hank was talking about how much he loved the song "Funky
Town" and broke into aa gruff soundingperformance of the song's chorus.. ("won't you take me to..... Funky TOWWWWN!")   He said it was just too funny.. He also says that this show (Best of 1 hit wonders) is on rerun all the time on VH1, lest they should actually show some, uh, music?

5/16/02 - from Strutter - Rollins on VH1's "100 Greatest One Hit Wonders"

I saw that...VH1's One Hit Wonders thing. He just sang along to that one line ("Wont' YOU take ME to...Funky-TOOOOW!!!") and talked about how it's such a good hook...and that he loved the song.   Nothing TOO terrible. :)

5/8/02 - from Pamela Leahigh - Rollins on VH1's "100 Greatest One Hit Wonders"

Spotted henry today on vh1.

They are doing a countdown of the 100 best one hit wonders. He is one of the commentators talking about all the different songs, along with some DJ's and music critics. Scott Ian from Anthrax also pops up every now and then.

Would you believe Henry Rollins likes the song "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc?

It is a 5 night series. Not sure if Henry is all 5 nights but he was on songs 60-80.

5/8/02 - from Kiwi Violencia - Rollins on VH1's "100 Greatest One Hit Wonders" & Monster.com commerical voiceovers

henry rollins is on VH1's 100 greatest one hit wonders
from monday until friday (and i'm sure they will re-run it a lot) Also Rollins narrates a commercial for Monster.com (a job finding company online). They run the commercials during the VH1 show a lot.

5/5/02 - from Britney - Black Flag in MTV show

Black Flag was featured singing "Rise Above" in MTV's
Ultrasound: The Social History of the Mosh Pit. A very bald Henry wearing black jeans and tennis shoes (no gym shorts?! gasp!) was shown getting sucked into the mosh pit in Washington D.C.'s first reported sighting of "slam dancing" in the 80s. I'd suggest catching more of MTV's "Rock Weekend" if you can, or wait for the reruns. Definitely worth watching!

4/29/02 - from Elizabeth Carlie - Rollins Band in commercial

Check this out, I was watching TV at home the other night and there's this commercial for the Mardi Gras Club, some kind of special pass program for the Greek and Universal Ampitheaters.  Guess what was playing in the background?  A loop of the intro to "Your Number is One!"

4/29/02 - from me - MTV news guy sporting Rollins duds

I happened to catch several of MTV's little news reports this past weekend.  The reporter, Iann Robinson, was wearing a black hooded "Part Animal / Part Machine" sweatshirt in all of them.

4/16/02 - from Dale Dukatz - Rollins voiceovers on ESPN

in case you diddn't know already, Rollins did the voice overs for, "the action sports awards", on espn. he narrates all the video footage of each nominee in each category. it's pretty rad! every now and then they will probably replay the awards so be on the lookout!

4/16/02 - from Rik Garcia - Rollins Black Flag era pic on back of magazine

the very back page of the may/june 2002 issue of revolver magazine (with phil anselmo on the cover) has a picture of Rollins' black flag debut, with a brief article.

4/7/02 - from Lex - Rollins mentioned in "Dance of Days" book

There is a mention of rollins in this months Bizarre mag (may 2002), it is in a book review for 'Days of Dance' by Mark Anderson and Mark Jenkins on Soft Skull label.   'The epic tome chronicles the career of Ian MacKaye and his work with the seminal bands Minor Threat and Fugazi, along with his Dischord label, which is devoted to nurturing and cataloguing DC punk.  Without the highly modest and self effacing MacKaye, there might not even have been a Henry Rollins - and where would we all be then?

4/2/02 - from Donald Carr - Rollins Band at football games

Reading your news and sightings page I thought I would let you know that I am the director for the Tennessee Titans (NFL) jumbo tron / in stadium video screen.  I also produce player highlights and in game music pieces. My Point:  I have been using "Are you Ready" for the past two seasons for kick offs and other video bits as well as playing "Your number is one" during warm up.  Good crowd response to Are you Ready.  I'll play more if i can get away with it. We play a bunch of different music but try to stay away from BTO, or the Stones "Start Me up", stuff you here at every other game.  I have also seen ESPN use Are you Ready last year and the best was Monday night football in Oakland playing 'Hello" with the crazed black clad fans, it rocked.  If I can I will send you a 1 minute team high light to "Are You Ready" for your sight.  Let me know if you are interested.  Keep up the cool sight.

3/18/02 - from Debi - Rollins Band in Q Magazine photos issue

Q magazine has their '100 Greatest Rock'n'Roll Photographs' issue out now. Guess who's No. 58?!!  Its a pic frorm 1992.  Its a fantastic close-up, fish-eye view of the band.  You can sort of see Andrew and Chris at the very edges of the pic. All you can see of Sim is the drum kit.  The photog describes taking the pic, and said he was about 8 inches from Rollins when he snapped the pic.

3/18/02 - from Jason Fusco - Rollins Band at hockey games

During Philadelphia Flyers home games, in between periods they have an "Air Hockey Challenge" that they broadcast into the rink on the jumbotron, for background music they use the instrumental version of "Your Number is One".  The St. Louis Blues used to enter the rink to RB's version of "Are You Ready".

3/17/02 - from Jason Fusco - Rollins interviewed in 2 magazines

In this month's "Blender" magazine by Maxim, Henry is listed in the article "38 Useful Tips from the Stars" with tips on "How to Avoid Middle-Age Spread".  He's listed as a "Fat Free Punk Veteran".  "A great way to get upper-body strength is to work on the lower body and back.  A cardio workout with medium-to-hard resistance, meanwhile, is a good regimen for getting toned.  Lots of low-weight reps up the heart rate and make the muscles work efficiently without ripping them.  As for staying fit after turning 40, what's worked for me is being careful of caloric intake.  I don't have the same stamina I did 10 year's ago, but I'm feeling good."

And in this month's "Stuff" magazine by Maxim in the "20 Sexist Album Covers of All-Time", the Rollins Band's "Nice" ranked #3, with these comments:  "Henry Rollins said of this cover:  'With a title like Nice, there are many different ways you can go...I decided to go the beautiful-naked woman-covered-with-hundreds-and-fifties-route...which, for some is the definition of nice.'  Rollins is as funny as he is talented (which is to say not much)."

3/11/02 - from Karen Schumacher - Rollins reference in Windows XP book

It's a wierd one, and wholly unexpected. Mom uses the "....For Dummies" series almost religiously. Latest purchase is "WindowsXP"....Page 63 has the following:

"It wants me to enter a password!

Windows XP lets bunches of people use the same computer without messing up each other's work.  But how do you make sure Josh doesn't read Grace's love letters to Henry Rollins?"

3/11/02 - from Patricia - Rollins Band in car commerical?

Hey, Cool page. Have you noticed that car commericial? Chevy I think? Silver car.  Either the audio was "your number is one" or too similiar to it and it got yanked.

3/10/02 - from Cameron - Rollins on Anthrax "VH1 Behind the Music"

hey man, dont know if its relevant or not but i was watching the anthrax behind the music and lo and behold theres hank talking about anthrax having balls because they did the rap/rock with the song "im the man". it was just a short cameo but i was happy to see him in it.

2/20/02 - from Kathy Hope - Rollins reference on radio

I'm listening to top 40 radio station this morning, don't ask me why.  Probably because the prigs at National Public Radio just get to me sometimes. Anyway the top 40 radio morning announcers made reference to a recnent Dee Snyder quote saying something like "Me and Henry Rollins get called in all the time because we're the only Rock Musicians who can speak in complete sentances," or something like that. The guy announcer said "I don't know who Henry Rollins is." My thought? Get off the air then. Then the lady announcer proudly announced that she knows who Henry Rollins is, he is "this big, loud heavy metal Nazi guy." Get out of the music business, both of you!

2/13/02 - from Kerry - Black Flag shirt on "That 80's Show"

On a side note - anyone here been watching the new tv show "That 80's Show"?  There are many things about it that bug me - so much so that I may never watch it again, but in the premiere we heard a little Hank!  The one guy who works in the record store asks if he can put a cassette in, and the manager comments that it's Black Flag.  So the next scene of the store you can hear Henry wailing "Slip It In" in the background.  The show is set in 1984, and at first I was thinking that "Slip It In" hadn't been released yet, but then I realized it had. *sigh*  I'm to the age where I can't remember how old I am, and everyone younger than me is a 'kid'. Anyone else? :)

1/26/02 - from Greg Episcopo - "Liar" video on VH1

Well after a seven year absense from the boob tube, the Rollins Band video "Liar" has come back for a brief visit.  It was shown in full and some the scenes I had forgotten because of the passing of time.  It reappeared on a new program called Forever Wild which airs on VH1.  The host is Sebastain Bach by the way.  The episode had Rob Halford of Judas Priest as the main guest throughout the one hour program.  I don't know if this exact episode will air with the Rollins Band video any time soon, but the URL for the airing of the show is http://www.vh1.com/insidevh1/schedule/series.jhtml?seriesID=8634   Forever Wild is supposed to be a "metal" show, but there were a few questionable picks for the playlist such as Creed.  Oh well, whatever they live.

1/24/02 - from Mad Stan - MTV News kid wearing Rollins Band shirt

Hello-- Just wanted to let you know, my wife told me that the other day on MTV2 the kid that does the news was wearing a Search & Destroy hooded sweatshirt.  I had thought the kid was kind of an obnoxious prick up until now.  At least he has some taste.  Also, we watched 'That 80s Show' last night, and there were a few references to Black Flag throughout the course of the show, including closing the show with a shot of a poster advertising a live Flag show.  Just some stuff we've come across in the last few days that I thought you and other Henry fans would find cool.
