Trouble Funk "Live / Early Singles" liner notes by Rollins

"I saw Trouble Funk play in 1982 and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Almost two hours, nonstop and it was only the first set. Twenty-two years and several hundred shows later, I still haven't seen a live band that could knock them off the stage on that night. Previous to the show, I had already heard how great the band was onstage when I got my hands on the live record that you now have. I had already heard all their singles an there wasn't a bad one in the bunch but the live album was another story completely. The style of music the band plays, Go-Go Funk, is one of the greatest things to have happened in the music world. You could argue the point, but you would be wrong. I first heard Trouble Funk in 1980 on WOL AM, sitting next to Ian MacKaye in his Duster as we drove down Wisconsin Avenue in Washington DC. The song was so good, we pulled to the curb and listened. The song was called Pump Me Up and to this day, it's still bulletproof. From that moment on, we were fans of the band.
Go-Go bands seem to stay primarily in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area, with occasional forays to places like New York, London and Tokyo. For the rest of my days, I will always wonder why Go-Go wasn't the beat that took over the world. There's nothing not to like about it. Listening to the music on these CDs after countless plays, I am still confounded. Like I've said before, this is essential listening. If this doesn't get you off, there's nothing we can do for you. From Duke Ellington to Trouble Funk to Fugazi, the District of Columbia delivers the goods.
One dollar from every copy sold of this CD will be donated to a charitable organization in the Washington DC area yet to be determined.
Thanks again,
Henry Rollins"
