Nebraska Outstanding German Teacher of the Year

The Outstanding German Teacher of the Year Award honors the exceptional contributions of a Nebraska German educator.  The recipient will be recognized at the fall NILA Conference.

Members of the Nebraska Association of Teachers of German may be self-nominated or nominated by a second party.  At least two letters of support must accompany the initial letter of nomination.  Colleagues, principals/supervisors, and/or students may contribute letters of support.

The letter of nomination should include:

Name of the nominee

Position and school

Home address and telephone number

Educational background (if available)

Honors received (if available)

Examples of the candidate's excellence in the classroom

Examples of the candidate's contributions to the profession, to the Nebraska AATG chapter, and to the study of German

Nominations must be received by SEPTEMBER 20, 2009.   Nominations should be sent to Brenda Stewart bkstewart@mpsomaha.org or

For pictures from ACTFL/AATG in Salt Lake City 2005, click on the button below.  Heinz Olk, who has been a champion for German was awarded the AATG Friend of German award.  This is a prestigious award awarded to only one person per year outside the teaching profession.  Pat Branson recieved a plaque at the AATG business meeting for her service on the Executive Council the past three years.

The AATG offers awards for outstanding teaching and service each year.  Our chapter may nominate candidates each year for the awards.  

Outstanding Educator Award and Checkpoint Charlie Foundation Scholarship:  One at the elementary, secondary and college/university level is chosen each year.  Awarded by the AATG for excellence in teaching, as evidenced by the individual's ability to stimulate and challenge students intellectually; and for the teacher's professional growth and contributions, by the ability to influence the quality of education in classrooms other than one's own, and by the contributions to the academic environment outside the classroom. 

AATG/Goethe Institute Certificate of Merit:  Up to ten are presented each year for outstanding achievement in furthering the teaching of German in schools at all levels in the US. 

AATG Friend of German Award:  One or two each year recognize outstanding support for and promotion of German and the stufy of German at the local, regional, or national level.
