The American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) has announced the first annual NATIONAL GERMAN WEEK Celebration for the week of October 1-7, 2001. This is also the week of German-American Day (October 6) and the Day of German Unity (October 3), Germany’s national holiday. In continuation of last year’s successful NEBRASKA GERMAN WEEK activities the Nebraska AATG chapter (NATG) is again planning a variety of events this October in cooperation with other organizations, institutions, and businesses, to commemorate the positive role of German speakers in history and today, and to promote the study of German. Students and teachers of German as well as interested members of the community are invited to attend.

Collaboratory Project Home at  http://collaboratory.nunet.net/cwebdocs/ (Hints, so you can use its "Finding GermanTown" project around October 6. The Collaboratory promotes student-directed learning and I believe this project will demonstrate the excitement of guiding students to find their own way in such a thing.   To see it all, you need to click sign-in, then read through the introduction and request a new account as a teacher.  Once you have approval, please go right back.   You will then see your "messages" that will guide you on to "Finding GermanTown."  No matter whether you stay and bring your students along or just look around, be sure to inspect our "Resources": click on the small triangle by the word, then try out everything you see there, including the "GermanTown Game" in Media Space. Lastly, please close and go back to the main site and click on the orange "messages" button. That will open a new gray bar for you and allow you to click on "conference center" and "launch" for a live chat OR go to "forum" and "Finding GermanTown" to contribute your reactions to the thread about the project. )
