Tech Trek ~

The Tustin Branch promotes recognition of outstanding achievement and educational opportunities for local women and girls. Fund raising to support the branch's commitment traditionally is assumed by the Past Presidents Committee.  Over the years the committee has  hosted the Woman of Distinction Tea, recognizing a local women for her significant contribution to the community. Recent fundraising efforts included used book sales at the Tustin Chili Cook-off and 2004's partnership with and generous support through the community's Cook-off event.

Funds raised have been used to sponsor one or more Tustin middle school girls to Tech Trek, a week long science, math and technology camp held at several California universities.  Tech Trek is an AAUW-CA state-wide project. The goal of Tech Trek is to provide a fun yet educational experience that will expand the minds of middle school age girls in the area of science, math and technology, major fields where women presently are underrepresented but where they can and do succeed.

"I learned so much and I know it will be a life changing experience." were the reinforcing comments of the recipient of the July 2004 campership at the University of California-San Diego.
