The
American Association of University Women (AAUW), founded in 1881, is the
oldest and the largest organization working to promote education and equity
for women and girls. It is an organization of over 100,000 members in over 1300 branches in 50 states
and 500 college and university partners. California has over 14,000 active members in
over 152 branches, 14 of which are in Orange County.
AAUW's purpose is to enable college women to continue their own intellectual growth, and to further the advancement of women and girls by commitment to education, equity, leadership, and the value of women's work.
The Tustin Branch was established in 1976 to help further the
cause of AAUW. Monthly meetings of the
Tustin Branch are held on the first Wednesday of the month, featuring a guest speaker, a
social period and a brief business meeting. Special programs are held on
weekends. Several interest groups meet monthly for intellectual growth, friendship, support
and just plain "fun". Others meet occasionally during the year.
Fundraising efforts are carried out throughout the year in support of the
Educational Foundation (EF)
and Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF)
and local educational support (Tech Trek)
for Tustin Schools seventh grade girls. Details are announced in the
Update, the branch bulletin.
