Elections, Awards and Scholarship Recipients

Above, left:  In a traditional transition of power, outgoing president Kay Koehler hands the gavel to the newly-elected president for 2008-2010, HelenRuth Burch. Elected to serve on the Nominating Committee for the next two years were Bonnie Bowles, Adria Casey and Nancy Ocorr. As her parting gift and in recognition of the Branch's 85th anniversary, Koehler presented the branch with a gavel engraved "Roanoke Valley Branch AAUW founded 1923."  The branch presented the outgoing president with a gift to the Heifer Project of a heifer, a trio of rabbits and some honeybees. Right:  Susan Millinger accepts her certificate as a "named gift honoree" from the AAUW Educational Foudation, in recognition of her long time service to the branch and the setting up of the branch archives at Roanoke College.  Paula Prince, EF/LAF chair for the branch, also presented certificates to Koehler and Burch.   Other named honorees, who were not present to receive their certificates, are Clare Newman, Beth Ann Rossi and S.C. Rossi and Company.

Scholarship Recipients
Left: Recipients of the non-traditional  Women's Scholarships, all attending Hollins University, are, from left, Sharon Mirtcheri,  Brenda Isaacs, Ann K. Dujardin, and Erika Critzer.  Right:  Recipients of the Lorraine and Hal Jones Jr. Scholarships were two sisters who also attend Hollins:  Heather Talley-Dorsey and Jessica Talley. These scholarships are funded by a gift from Branch Member Pamala Jones in memory of her parents.

The Young Women Scholarship Recipients at left are Elizabeth Wingfield, Governor's School and Hidden Valley High School; Karen Harshfield, Northside High School; and  Emily Anne O'Rourke, Hidden Valley High School.  The Women's and Young Women's Scholarships are funded by proceeds from our annual book sale.  The named EF gifts mentioned above recognized Burch and Newman for their long time leadership of the sale, and the S.C. Rossi and Company for help with setting up the sale in 2007.
