Personal
Stuff...
I am a big fan of CSI and CSI
Miami. I also recently signed up for Direct TV so I can pull in Free
Speech TV and LINK TV stations. I love to watch Democracy Now!,
Stephen Colbert on Comedy Channel, and learn from the Geography Channel,
Discovery Channel, and the History Channel. Other than these
programs, the TV remains off.
Which brings me to my current occupational obsession: student! I am currently
a post graduate student trying to decide which direction I would like to
take. My interests are in helping people and improving society, even
if in a small way. I believe in education, and social programs, and
a government that protects people and regulates business, not the other
way around. My Bachelor's
degree is in Criminal Justice
Administration. My ideal job would be to work for a non-profit
organization that is dedicated to protecting people, the environment,
education, and our health.
While I haven't had much time
during my full-time work and full-time school efforts to hike, once I am
finished I plan to take up this activity once again. Arizona has many many beautiful trails in our
state, the Grand Canyon, and caves. I must also confess: until this
past election cycle, my hope for a brighter future was quite dim. A
fresh wind has blown across America after Nov/2006 and I feel the whole
country, even the world, has breathed a sigh of relief at America's rise
from slumber and frozen inaction against the threats to our constitution
by those who claim to be upholding it. Who would have guessed our
government would uphold and demand to be allowed to torture, conduct
secret tribunals, cause smoke-screen issues about illegal immigrants while
they export our jobs to slave-nation workforces while at the same time
protect the companies who hire illegal immigrants. As long as there are
people starving in the world, and need to work, they will come where there
are jobs. America should be helping nations to improve their economic
systems, not destroying their elected democratic or socialist governments
to instill dictator military governments favorable to corporate hegemony.
I am an incurable bookworm.
I love the smell of books. If I have a vacation, I am likely to
check out eight books and finish them all before the end of the
week. I have recently discovered the free e-books available from the
University of Virginia, and have reread some of the books from my early
years, such as George Orwell's 1984. There are man
y authors who are my
favorites, but I have become a huge fan of Howard Zinn, Thomas Hartmann,
and I never fail to enjoy a good read by Ed McBain and his 87th
Precinct series mystery novels. However, since 2000 my tastes
in books has changed to more non-fiction, history, and current political analysis.
To hear real commentary,
critical thinking analysis, and a view to the left of extremist neo-con,
tune in on your internet to NOVAMRadio
and hear the voice of the people, not corporate-owned talking heads and
the shills for the Bush regime. We
have a voice today and a choice. Listen to XM Satellite Ch.
167 if you have it.
The internet has also changed my
life. I no longer place any credence to what the mainstream media
reports. They have sold their journalistic souls for corporate
bottom-line entertainment or worse (as in Fox network that outright lies)
a political agenda that is hostile to true democratic values. The true reporters are now the bloggers
and the independent media. Their voices can still be heard, but not from
the mainstream media now owned by about five military-weapons-producing
corporations (http://www.takebackthemedia.com/owners.html).
