Music
Before there was Carol Place, before there was an "us," music was important to our shared experience. When Jess and Eric came to town, and Robin joined us on Carol Place, and Debbie entered the family circle, "important" became "central." First there was Jessica's Summer Singers, which, when Jessica got a gig with Gretchen Kuhrmann, led to Robin's getting a gig as section lead and soloist at Falls Church Presbyterian Church and to Robin, Debbie, and Aliceann joining Choralis for its inaugural season Debbie has since left Choralis to pursue her true musical love, Gilbert and Sullivan. We have watched with considerable pleasure and familial pride as she has won progressively more challenging roles, including one stint as Musical Director, in the productions of the Victorian Lyric Opera Company (VLOC) and the Washington Savoyards. For five years, Robin had three musical gigs, Falls Church Pres, Choralis, and Echos. With each, she had significant soloist responsibilities, including the mezzo soloist when Choralis performed Mendelssohn's Elijah in its third season and when Echos, that same year, performed Bernstein's Missa Brevis. How is Choralis doing? Judging from the reviews in The Post of the concerts that concluded its fourth, sixth, and eighth seasons, just fine. |
