Dora Hitz was born at Altdorf, near Nuremberg, and studied art at the Munich Academie under Lindenschmit. At the request of the Queen of Romania, she went to Bucharest and created illustrations for the Queen's poem "Ada."  Later in Berlin , she focused on portraits.  After her death, her "Dammerung" painting was seized by the Third Reich and later impounded by the East German authorities.

Born in Heidelberg, Margarethe Hormuth studied at Carlsruhe under Ferdinand Keller. She and her painter-husband Friedrich Kallmorgen were "first generation" members of the Karlsruher Art Colony founded in the 1890s in Grötzingen by her husband and their artist friends. Hormuth-Kallmorgen was known for her floral still life paintings.




Countess Maria Kalckreuth (1857 - 1897)

Born in Düsseldorf, Countess Maria Kalckreuth lived much of her adult life in Munich.  She won a medal at the 1893 Exposition.  Her exhibited work "Christ Raising a Repentant Sinner"  was later purchased for the Protestant Chapel at Dachau.

Berlin artist Marie von Keudell was born in Lannicken. After studying in Berlin under Pape, Otto von Kameke, and Dressier, she traveled and painted in England, Italy, and Switzerland.




Hildegard Lehnert (1857 - 1943)

Hildegard Lehnert was born 1855 in Berlin where she studied art with Emma Lobedan and Carl Gussow and in Paris under Edmond Yon.   She was the director of an art school in Berlin from 1909 to 1922.

German artist Sophie Ley was born at Bodmann am Bodensee and studied in Stuttgart and with Gude and Bracht in Karlsruhe where she become a member of the Künstlerbund. She was known for her still life flowers and wall decorations.

Clara Lobedan was born in Naumburg/Saale and studied flower and still life painting with Grönland and Gussow in Berlin. Evidently she established an art school for women.

Düsseldorf with Wilhelm Sohn and in  München with Ludwig von Herterich and Wilhelm Dürr.  No other information is available (in English) online.

Princess Vilma Lwoff-Parlaghy (also called Princess Elisabeth Lwoff or Vilma Von Parlaghy or Parlaghy-Brachfeld) was a portrait painter as well as an international celebrity of sorts.  Born in Hungary, she studied in Budapest, Munich, Venice, Florence, and Turin, soon becoming a favorite of the Court of Berlin. The "princess" married and divorced (in short order) a Russian prince, was very rich, and was well-known as an animal-lover.  Her entourage and her pets, including a lion, traveled with her to luxurious hotels in Europe and America.  She was also known for her portraits of important public figures.

Louisa Begas Parmentier and her older sister Marie were born in Vienna and studied art with the landscape painter Emil Schindler and the etcher William Unger.  After traveling extensively in Europe, the Orient, and Sicily, she married painter Adalbert Begas and established her studio in Berlin.  Her architectural pictures and landscapes often feature Italian or Venetian themes.

Artist, musician, and poet, Hermine von Preuschen was born in Darmstadt and studied under Ferdinand Keller in Karlsruhe.  She traveled to many European countries, but finally set up art studios in Munich, Berlin, and Rome; her later travels included India, Sri Lanka, and Burma. She is best known for her floral paintings.  Her first (short) marriage was with Dr. Oswald Schmidt; later she married writer Konrad Telman.

Frau Schroeder was a German artist.  No other information is available online about a female artist named "Schroeder" or "Schroder."  However, an artist named "Berta" or "Bertha Schrader" lived during this time period (born 1845 in Memel and died 1920 in Moritzburg).  If this is the correct identification, she studied under Paul Baum and at some point developed a pointillist style of painting.
