Ad-Free surfing in Firefox

This is a repost.

_____________________________________________________________________________

If you are a Firefox user, then I'm sure you know about the Adblock extension. Well, today we're going to take this nifty adblocking program one step further to make sure we have ad-free surfing.

1. Download and install the adblock extension.
2. Download and install the chromedit extension.
3. Close, then restart Firefox.
4. Download this adblock list from http://gauret.free.fr and place in My Documents.
5. Click Tools => Adblock => Preferences => Adblock Options => Import Filters. Browse to My Documents and click the adblock.txt file located there. This will import a list of over 1000 items to block. This will also override your current list, so be sure to make a backup by going to Tools => Adblock => Preferences => Adblock Options => Export Filters.
6. Go to the Tools => Edit User Files => userContent.css
7. Go to this link and copy the code.
8. Paste it in your userContent.css file and click save
9. Restart your browser
10. Enjoy ad-free surfing!

What we have done is create a huge list of ads for the adblock extension to block for us. The code we have copied into our userContent.css file will keep items that are already specified in the code to not even load (which adblock does not do).

I have done this and will monitor my ad viewing experience.

Thanks to http://www.notanorg.org for the tip about the code for the userContent.css file.
