Ad-Free surfing in Firefox

This is a repost.

_____________________________________________________________________________

If you are a Firefox user, then I'm sure you know about the Adblock extension. Well, today we're going to take this nifty adblocking program one step further to make sure we have ad-free surfing.

1. Download and install the adblock extension.
2. Download and install the chromedit extension.
3. Close, then restart Firefox.
4. Download this adblock list from http://gauret.free.fr and place in My Documents.
5. Click Tools => Adblock => Preferences => Adblock Options => Import Filters. Browse to My Documents and click the adblock.txt file located there. This will import a list of over 1000 items to block. This will also override your current list, so be sure to make a backup by going to Tools => Adblock => Preferences => Adblock Options => Export Filters.
6. Go to the Tools => Edit User Files => userContent.css
7. Go to this link and copy the code.
8. Paste it in your userContent.css file and click save
9. Restart your browser
10. Enjoy ad-free surfing!

What we have done is create a huge list of ads for the adblock extension to block for us. The code we have copied into our userContent.css file will keep items that are already specified in the code to not even load (which adblock does not do).

I have done this and will monitor my ad viewing experience.

Thanks to http://www.notanorg.org for the tip about the code for the userContent.css file.

Aussie athlete to amputate finger to play better
Associated Press

SYDNEY, Australia -- An Australian professional football player plans to have one of his fingers amputated in an attempt to improve his game.

Brett Backwell, who plays Australian rules football for Glenelg, a suburb of the city of Adelaide in South Australia state, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. on Tuesday he has suffered from pain and restricted movement since he broke his left ring finger three years ago.

Doctors had suggested fusing the bones in the finger, but Backwell rejected the proposal.

He said he believed that amputating the finger was the only way to stop the pain and allow him to keep playing.

'To chop a finger off, that's a bit drastic,' Backwell told the ABC. 'But I love my footy, and love playing sport, and if that's going to help me to succeed at this level then it's something you've just got to do.'"

Creating custom XP install CD

Here is a great link for creating custom install CDs. Remove/add components to install, create auto-installs, slipstream Office with Windows Install.

Have you ever wanted a Windows CD that would install Windows by automatically putting in your name, product key, timezone and regional settings? And have it merged with the latest Service Pack to save time? Followed by silently installing all your favourite applications along with DirectX 9.0c, .Net Framework 1.1 and then all the required hotfixes, updated drivers, registry tweaks, and a readily patched UXTheme.dll without any user interaction whatsoever? Then this guide will show you how you can do just that!

Sounds pretty cool!

Video from inside a tornado

Tornado's are very destructive. With wind speeds commonly topping over 150-mph, nothing stands a chance when face to face with a tornado. Meteorologists study tornado's every chance they get. National Geographic decided to get first hand video of these beasts in action

A well-placed probe fitted with 7 video cameras - 6 with a 60-degree field-of-view designed to achieve a full 360-degree field-of-view (one failed during deployment, resulting in a 300-degree field-of-view) and one pointing upward - captures footage inside a tornado.

Video here.

Ahh...feels like home.
