Coffee Shoppe Blues
Alone
at a table
Yesterdays
news in hand
You’re
reading the fables
From
all over are lands
Your
hand is shaking has age ruined you
You’re
lookin’ out the window, wondering whose watching you
You’ve
got those Coffee Shoppe Tuesdays Caffeine Blues
Reading
what you already know yesterday’s news
Now
you see a young man
Reminders
of youth
You’re
seeing yourself in him
Avoiding
the truth
Dreams
conquer all as it happened that day
Now
the gleam on the window stole your dreams away
Get
up from the table
You
throw some change down
Nod
& smile at the waitress and then turning around
The
smile fades as you push open the door
Glancing
over your shoulder at your life once more.
