What have I been?

[play]  (listen)

If you could keep morality, the way we keep time

Would you strap yours to my wrist, would you wear mine?

And is it crazy to say, if I met myself in time.

I may not like what I see, may not believe what I find.

The reflection I see as I study my skin

leaves me to question all that I've been.

I question myself, what have I been.

A weathered man on a street corner, claims his place in line

'tween the women of the night, they' re all selling time.

He revels himself as he parts his trench coat

Asks himself, what have I become?, his soul cries out

The reflection I see as I study my skin

leaves me to question all that I've been.

I question myself, what have I been.

Looking back in time another face

Oh one I loved then and embraced

The reflection I see as I study my skin

leaves me to question all that I've been.

I question myself, what have I been?

Marriages of love broken by time

leaves two hearts empty longing to find

An adulteress cries , long after the deed

can she forgive herself, her heart bleeds.

The reflection I see as I study my skin

leaves me to question all that I've been.

I question myself, what have I been.

Army of the streets target our young

With poisons of pleasure, sweet songs sung

Chiefs call themselves prophets as they justify

No consequence, till loved ones die.
