I received the following translation of the request to re-instate the Dzimitrowicz Family Crest on June 6, 1996. This is a translation of the document received from the Lithuanian Archives. The translation was received on this date. It was translated by individuals who speak various languages (such as Lithuanian, Polish, Russian and Belarus to name a few) and work at the Balzekas Museum in Chicago, IL...

While doing research, I have contacted various people with the surname of Dzimitrowicz in all of the following locations.
 

  1. USA - All members are related except for the family from Boston, Mass. I also feel there may be some relationship here in past history. This was possibly established upon reviewing the nobility request which refers to an Augustyn and the reference to an Augustine (sp) from the Boston, Mass. D's.. More information required. (!?!?!?)
  2. Lithuania - The individual here has married thus loosing her surname of Dzimitrowicz. Due to research by her because of a request from me (she works in the Archives in Wilno, Lithuania). It was discovered that she turns out to be our third cousin once removed. The equivalent name in Lithuanian for Dzimitrowicz would be DZIMITRAVICIUS or DIMITRAVICIUS. According to the Lietuviu pavardziu Zodynas (Lithuanian Surname Dictionary) there are four (4) uses of the name in Eisiskes and six (6) uses in Kaunas for Dzimitravicius. For the name Dimitravicious, there are three (3) uses in Kaunas, Lazdijai one (1), Zarenai three (3), -ovicious Druskininkai one (1), of Dimitrovic eight (8). This equates to about 25 cases of the Name in Lithuania. This would increase the estimate of Dzimitrowicz's.
  3. France - Finally met Joseph & Marie-Therese Dzimitrowicz. Was a wonderful day but very short. Hope to do it again real soon.
  4. Germany- Contact has been established with Robert Dzimitrowicz (from Poland) who lives and works in Germany. In conversation, he is quite interested in this search.
  5. England - The same feeling applies here with the individual whom I have contacted.
  6. Poland -My thanks to Robert and his most wonderful wife and son. Also a special thanks to his mother who was a most hospitable individual. Even though there are at least 79 registered families with the name of Dzimitrowicz, I have not had the opportunity to contact many.
  7. No matter whether there is a relationship or not, it is the name alone that is unique and all have in common. With what is known, there are approximately 125 to 150 families with this name. In my estimate there are about 350 Dzimitrowicz's in the world. Anybody with a different guess? How does that feel belonging to a minority group?
