I first met Bryan Anderson in January of 1998.  He was a 17 year old young man who happened to be a C 4/5 quadriplegic.  He had been having problems with pressure ulcers and had motivational problems with any type of therapy, although he had access to some of the best therapeutic equipment.

At this point Bryan and his family had already previously met with Dr. Goldsmith and Bryan had decided that the surgery wasn't for him, as the therapy after surgery would have to be very intense.

My initial goals with Bryan were not centered around Omentum Transposition, but it was to motivate him to do therapy to help prevent more pressure ulcers and also to elevate his physical condition as high as possible.

After working with Bryan for almost six weeks, he began asking about Omentum Transposition.  I told him that it would involve him having to dedicate himself to intense daily therapy.  I told him to think about it and when he decided he could comit himself that we could then contact Dr. Goldsmith.

About a week later I contacted Dr. Goldsmith and Bryan and his family began preparing for the surgery.  In the meantime Bryan began a program of anabolic steroid injections and we increased the intensity of his program.

This all paid off, as Bryan finally flew to Germany in July of 1998 and had the Omentum Transposition surgery.

After being home a week we started range of motion and electric stimulation daily.

After two months a noticeable increase in breathing was seen.  His muscles began to become very pumped with blood during his E-Stim.  After two more months he ban to flick his right thumb.

Along the way he never lost anything that he has gained.

About a month later, mid-January 1999 he moved his left thumb a we noticed a significant inrease in the strength of the left tricep, as compared to the right.

At the beginning of February Bryan began to control his abdominal muscles, which also were becoming much more defined.  We must keep in mind that Bryan has been cycling on and off anabolic steroids, Depo-testosterone, throughtout his entire program, with no negative effects.

At the end of Feruary and the beginning of March Bryan again regained an important function, he was able to experience sexual intercourse on a fairly regular basis.

During the last month, March of 1999 Bryan has experienced a tremendous jump in spasm activity.  But he also is experiencing many different feelings inside his body, such as burning sensations in his arms and legs.

So as is documented Bryan has shown a steady increase in changes in his body during the last 8 months.  To everyone involved they don't come fast enough but as long as they keep occurring, that is all we can pray for.

The above was presented by Bryans Therapist, Arnie Fonseca who is an Exercise Physiologist.
