it also didn't go that bad considering we
raced in in socked in and snowing conditions.
Brent and I were doing really good
and hanging in there comfortably, heck Brent
was actually looking really
good and riding strong. Then out of nowhere,
I got a flat at the beginning of the climb,
I
didn't notice it at first, but i felt like
I couldn't keep up with the riders and was
like something is wrong, so I look down at
the front tire and there was the answer. to
make matters worse, we had no wheel support
whatsoever. So on that note I yelled to Brent
that I had a flat, and I saw him pull over
the side of the road and he also had flatted
100 meter past me. Talk about coincidence.
So there I was on a climb with my team mate
also flat. So I decided to keep riding on
the flat to the feed zone and someone was
gracious to give me a loner. I kept on even
though I had lost two minutes. cought two
other riders and finished 5th considering.
Brent also got a spare from someone and managed
6th... I think Brent or I could have definitely
won, based on who we were racing. But what
can you do? Actually it still was fun. considering...
Alot of people either didn't show or left
before the start.

Yeh, that was fairly surreal at the start,
- dark, cold, snow flurries, white capped
hills around us – everyone looking at
the next guy and wondering what the hell we
were doing down there. But once we got rolling
it felt pretty good – actually I think
it was lap 3 that I felt my fingers for the
first time and the sting from the snow in
my eyes had subsided. The decisive moment
came on the first hill of lap 4/6, we start
to accelerate – maybe make a move…?
I hear Miguel yelling about something –
I’m in my first race, somewhat clueless
state of mind and by the time I realize he’s
calling out a flat – I’ve got
one too. Both on the front wheel of course.
Had I been more dialed in I would have been
able to throw him my wheel – but I don’t
think he would have gone too far with it!
It’s too bad because I’m sure
he would have been in position to win. I walked
around aimlessly for awhile trying to decide
how I was going to get back to the start/finish
- eventually someone rolled up and gave me
a wheel after I had cooled down. That was
the most painful moment for me – trying
to jump back on the bike at that point. I
was happy to finish and to say I got a top
10 in my first race (never mind there were
like 11 guys who started).
