Sigma Chi Alpha Scholarship Fund
. According to F. David Brangaccio, the scholarship’s founder, the principal in the Fund has now reached slightly over $100,000 and the first scholarship award of $4000 will be given in the Fall of 2009. This Fund is under the auspices of the UCONN Foundation and they have the exclusive right to select the recipient. Criteria was set forth with guidelines from the State as follows: " In-State Freshman with high academic standing, preferably in the School of Business, but possibly in Arts/Sciences." In keeping with its Charitable Tax deduction status of gifts, it is open to all incoming freshmen and not restricted to Sigma Chis. The Fund was also established in regard to the Foundation's overall objective which is to attract talented in state students who might go elsewhere for their education. The other primary objective is to keep a legacy of the Sigma Chi Alpha name, since it has passed from active existence.
Beginning with this year's award, each year the award will be around 4 % of the principal in the Fund. Hopefully, with investment returns of that amount or greater, the Fund will be vested in perpetuity. Donations may still be made to the fund through the Foundation. Dave can also be contacted for more information. The plan is to award a four-year scholarship to an incoming freshman to get the maximum benefit to that qualified student.
