This talk, from the Ocean of Grace Divine, comes from the heart of the true inner nature of the path, where inhaling and exhaling Love of the Guru is not something to be ashamed of, as it is in the mean streets of this world, but rather it is an exalted and also respected state of being.
Stories such as this may cause some confusion among those who have entered the path in very recent years. The face of Sant Mat has indeed changed, through the twenty-nine years of my involvement. The late sixites and early seventies was a very different era. Think of it as - Before Oprah. Certainly, the general (North American) culture has descended into the age of pablum, be it televised, cinematic, headline, soundbite, fast food, pharmaceutical, chain store or political pablum. By Pablum, I refer to a kind of homogeneity at a fairly low level of standard for taste (in any sense you want to take the word), or depth, or quality.
As such the Masters, in their humility, offer inducements in the form of spiritual pablum.
We now have a path that has moved from the mystical/mythic, to the scientific, to the rational. The guru is a "mentor" and meditation is good for all that ails you.
It is harder to find the nut of it, and you wonder how deep is the understanding of those who take up the path under this banner.
Yet, the recent publication of over one hundred mostly remarkable stories of individual experiences pertaining to Rajinder Singh, is very striking in a way that is similar to my favorite book of rememberances, the Ocean of Grace Divine.
So I just open to the wisdom of this approach, but know that it is not without something sacrificed. Being a positivist, I presume that other potentials open in compensation for whatever seems to be lost.
For the record, my own hunch as to "the wisdom of this approach", is that it has to do with the socializing, globalizing spirit of the age. How can the New Age predicted by the Masters truly dawn if they do not participate with humanity in her unfoldment in an intimate, direct way. It is not their way to twitch the noses and remake humanity, just as it is not their way to direct their sangat. (I think I have spoken before of my observations of the passive management style of the Masters). Yet, I know that their intention is that love shall be the law, and that they always hold humanity in their love. How better to express it then to become more, ah, human.
Nevertheless, I can honestly say that I am a child of the old school and this is a talk in that spirit.
