The following account is from Bibi Harbhajan Kaur, wife of Sant Darshan Singh Ji. A women of enormous intelligence, energy and industry, she used the occasion of her husbands guruship and the cessation of a normal home life, to delve into music as well as the various languages of visitors to the ashram. She was very closely involved with Sant Darshan Singh throughout his ministry. Her own memoirs are published as an autobiography. Presently she lives with her son, Sant Rajinder Singh and his family, and frequently tours with him. This lovely account was orginally published in "Ruhani Newsletter", the early journal of Sant Darshan Singh's spiritual mission, before Russell Perkins gave up the publication of Sat Sandesh and it was taken over by the Sant Darshan's organization.

It is worth noting that rather then spending energy attempting to indoctrinate the young wife into the spiritual faith of the family through words, Sant Kirpal Singh, led her to the path through a first-hand inner experience. This later become the watchword of his spiritual ministry.

Before getting married I did not know anything about this path. Then I got married and came to the Master's house, and I found an atmosphere of great love and affection. Maharaj Ji (Sant Kirpal Singh) loved me very much and the whole family did also. At first I thought they loved me because they had no girl in the family. Later on I found it was a spiritual family and the love they were giving me, the affection they were bestowing on me, was of its own kind.

My husband was in service in Delhi with the Government of India and my parents were in Rawalpindi. Maharaj Ji used to live in Lahore. I used to go from Delhi to Rawalpindi and stay in Lahore for a few days. So once it happened in the early days of my married life that Maharaj Ji told my respected mother-in-law and myself to come to a garden in the evening and that He would go from the office to that place. The name of the garden was Simla Pahari (mountain). We both went to the garden in the evening, and after taking some fruit which Maharaj Ji had brought with Him, Maharaj Ji told my mother-in-law to kindly sit for a while. Meanwhile we both began to take a round of the garden. Maharaj Ji was talking to me and took me to one part of the garden. All of a sudden He told me to stop and asked me whether I was listening to some sound. As I was not aware of the Science of the Soul I looked here and there and He told me not to look around. He told me to stand still and then try to hear the sound. I heard a sound of ringing bells and I told Him. He asked me where the sound was coming from. I plainly told Him that it must be in some temple near around. He said, "All right," and He took up some other topic and asked me to walk. He took me to another corner of the garden. There again He made me stand still and repeated the same question, as to whether I was listening to some sound. Again, because I was not aware of this Path I could not catch the point, and I stood there looking around. He said to just stand still, and try to hear any sound. I heard the same sound and I told Him about it. Again He asked me the same question and I answered that there must be some temples around. He said, "All right." Then He took me to the third corner and the same queslions were put. I thought that there must be some meaning to what was being asked, and I wondered what it could be. The same sound was coming in a louder tone, and I was wonderstruck. The sound seemed to be coming from temples - but when He asked me to look around for the temples I saw that there was no temple to be seen.

Then He asked me to come to the center of the garden. He made me sit down and He put His thumb on my forehead and asked me to close my eyes. I heard the ringing of the bells and a big loud sound of a bell. After about half an hour, I opened my eyes and He asked me about the sound. I said it was coming even still louder. And then He told me that the sound was not from without but from within. This was my first experience with the Science of the Soul.
