Bill was testing planes for acceptance for the US Navy. When the engine failed on this T28 another test pilot in the area heard the mayday and took these pictures from above. As the story goes, when the plane came to rest in on the farm, a woman was standing in the field. She first asked "Are you alright?" Next she asked "Who's going to pay for that fence?" When Bill got out of the T28, he found an indian arrowhead sitting on the center of the left wing tip.
