FACTS ABOUT THE ALLMAN
BROTHERS BAND:
Gregg wished to avoid
going to Vietnam, so his big brother Duane suggested a toe shooting
party. They painted a target on his moccasin, got real drunk
and shot Gregg in the toe. It worked.
After Duane died on his
motorcycle, Berry Oakley seemed fixated on bikes although he was
not a very good rider. Berry died in a similar accident,
one year later, a block away.
Chuck Leavell and Lamar
Williams were not royalty players, even while transforming the
band's sound. They were paid a weekly salary.
Duane never would talk
about which licks he had played on the Layla album. As a
result, there is much confusion as to who plays what.
Duane Allman's nickname
was Skydog.
Gregg Allman was once
married to Cher and they have a kid named Elijah Blue.
True Allman Brothers
fans are called Peachheads. Many Peachheads name their kids after
Allman Brothers songs such as "Jessica", "Melissa",
"Little Martha" and "Blue Sky."
"Jessica" is
featured in the Buick Regal Sports Car GS TV commercial.
"No One To Run With"
is featured in the movie "Waterboy", which is now on
video.
The "At Fillmore
East" album is considered one of the best live rock recordings
of all time.
Duane played slide guitar
on Eric Clapton's "Layla" album.
It is customary to yell
out "Whipping Post" and "Play All Night" during
concerts.
The ABB were the first
to popularize stadium tours in the early 70's.
Contrary to popular belief,
Duane Allman was not killed by a peach truck. The phrase (&
album) "Eat A Peach" was actually one of Duane's personal
sayings, meaning "keep the peace" or "be cool."
