A Wedding for the world
A young couple approached me and ask me to officiate at their wedding which would be located at the Cabrillo Monument near Point Loma close to the lighthouse. The couple was from Germany and came to the United States to have a secret marriage. We met at the lighthouse and walked to a secluded place about 100 yards away. A couple who lived in La Jolla were walking by and the bride and groom asked them to be their witnesses. Little did we know that they would not be the only witnesses. The 1992 America Cup boat race was going on off the coast of Point Loma. Near where we were standing for the wedding was a tower with a camera grew shooting the race and broadcasting it around the world. One of the cameramen saw us and thought it would make an interesting side story to the race by taking pictures of the little secret wedding. Those films were on television all around the world. The bride came to America to have a secret wedding and her father watched it on television in Germany.
