Thoughts and Memories

Basketball

I am with one of my long time friends, Haywood Pritchett.  We are in about the sixth grade in this picture.  Haywood and I would walk over to the Euclid Elementary School and play a little basketball with some of our friends.  Later my dad put a hoop up on our garage and we would shoot some baskets after school.  Haywood and I were also on the college basketball team together. See picture of college team below.

About 1943

This is the the basketball team of the East San Diego Christian Church.  We were the San Diego city church league championship team for the year 1949.  We had a very good team. We did a lot of fast breaks and I was high point man on the team that year.  I believe the best players on the team were Bob Woods and Sam Bell.

We were a good and fast team, but very small for a college level basketball. I was high point man of this team. We were second place in the league.

During a game at Northwest Christian College I shot and hopefully made a left handed hook shot.

Basketball was my best participating sport, but I got married, worked about 30 hours a week, and carried a full load in college, so I had to discontinue playing basketball.  Later at age about 60 I put up a hoop at our house in Alpine and again I would shoot some baskets.  I never lost my eye for shooting, but of course I could no longer do very well at the hook shots.
