Sept. 23, 2004: Congratulations to Chip and Kim as the winners
of the 5th Amazing Race. The final show drew some of the
best ratings of the series's history. It appears that in its 5th
season, The Amazing Race finally found its audience. In new news,
the 6th race, which was supposed to begin soon on Saturday nights, will
now be held back and aired as a mid-season replacement, probably on
Tuesday or Wednesday nights. This is good news, as this
rescheduling will now save the show from the ratings-starved Saturday
night time slot.
Sept. 19, 2004: Congratulations
to The Amazing Race for winning the emmy for Outstanding
Reality/Competition Program for the 2nd Straight year! I
am thrilled that the people behind the show are finally being honored
for the excellent work they put into each show. I am also excited
to see the ratings up for the show this season, making it the most
successful season thus far. It has won its timeslot often, and
has even been the #1 watched show of the night a few times. Even
more promising, it has continued to stay in the top 20 shows of the
week even as the regular season has started. In other news, VH1
named Charla and Mirna's appearance on the show as the #1 highlight of
the summer. I am looking forward to seeing the finale this
Tuesday, and would be thrilled to see any of the teams (with the
exception of Colin and Christie) win the big prize.
July 22, 2004: Congratulations to the Amazing Race for
its 4 Emmy Nominations this year, including Outstanding
Reality/Competition Program, the category won by the show last
year. Its other nominations include Outstanding cinematography,
Outstanding Picture Editing (Nonfiction), and Outstanding Sound Mixing
(Nonfiction). In other good news, the 5th Amazing Race has been
delivering consistently good ratings thus far this season. It has
increased its audience each week for the first 3 shows, and in the 3rd
week it won its timeslot and was the highest rated program of the
night. And... in promising news, CBS now has applications for a
"7th" Race available on its website.
Sept. 21, 2003: When The Amazing Race debuted in 2001, the show was one of the few reality programs that actually recieved critical praise. The ratings, however, were lukewarm at best. The show has kept a small but loyal base of core fans who have always recongized the supremacy of this show over its competition. Finally, vindication comes as The Amazing Race wins an Emmy for Best Reality/Competition program, beating out higher rated shows such as Survivor. Kudos also go to CBS for renewing The Amazing Race for a 5th installment (which will probably air in the summer of 2004). The editing, cinematography, and musical scoring are some of the best in television, and I applaud CBS for keeping the show around even though it may not make as much money for them as a replacement may.
At the time of this posting (July 22, 2004), applications for what
CBS is calling the "7th" Race are available at www.cbs.com.
Please do not email me for additional information about the
application
process. I do not know anything.
