In a nutshell- Get to Bangkok. Not so
fast Gary/Dave and Chris/Alex... cheating doesn't pay. Windhoek to
Johannesburg, Johannesburg to Bangkok. Let the race begin...again?
Strange little green men...are we in Thailand or another planet entirely.
Send a car to your ancestors...or perhaps two... hey, lets make it three.
Rather not? Well you could always free some birds. Confusion
now, Confusion later, Confusion all the time. Bats, roaches, bacteria...
Oh my! Get to this place:
Ban Plong Pang Wat Leng Yi Nei Wat Phran Khao Chong...or some random
combination of those words.
| Oswald and Danny | 7:47 AM | First Place |
| Tara and Wil | 10:34 AM | 2 hours 47 minutes behind |
| Gary and Dave | 10:45 AM | 2 hours 58 minutes behind |
| Blake and Paige | 11:34 AM | 3 hours 47 minutes behind |
| Mary and Peach | 11:34 AM | 3 hours 47 minutes behind |
| Cyndi and Russell | 11:44 AM | 3 hours 57 minutes behind |
| Chris and Alex | 12:59 PM | 5 hours 12 minutes behind |
Before the episode begins, we get a glimpse of what occurs during the pit stop rest time. Blake aparently said he wanted to gang up and get rid of Tara and Wil. Wil, of course, does not take it well when he learns about it. Chris and Alex and Mary and Peach also are irritated with Blake and Paige.
Anyway, Oswald and Danny, after using the Fast
Forward last week, are the first team to leave at 7:47 A.M. The clue
directs them to go find the Temple Dancers at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok,
Thailand. They head off to nearby Windhoek to catch a flight to Johannesburg.
From there, they will fly directly to Bangkok. All the teams leave
it an order that is not entirely the order in which they arrived.
Gary and Dave and Chris and Alex both exceeded the race-imposed speed limit
in the last episode. Apparently, they were required to drive 20 kph
below the posted speed limit for extra safety. They both recieved
penalties, but nothing too serious. Also, Blake and Paige, probably
after getting grief for jumping ahead of Mary and Peach in the last episode,
allow them to leave before themsevles. Anyways, the end result is
that every team, except for Chris and Alex, end up on the same flight to
Johannesburg. But, if you're already thinking its elimination time
for Chris and Alex, think again. They take a flight to Johannesburg
2 hours later, and end up in the airport at the same time as the other
teams. They will all be on the same flight to Bangkok. So,
its as if the race began again in Bangkok.
Gary and Dave asked for seats at the front of the
plane, so they take an early lead out of Bangkok. They leave out
of the airport and ask for directions. What follows is a scene that
was much funnier than any joke Gary could have come up with. They
approach 3 guys in strange green suits. They appear to be bugs, or
maybe some kind of aliens. Gary/Dave proceed to ask these strange
green men for directions. They get strange blank stares and decide
that maybe that little green men aren't the best source of directions.
Anyway, Mary and Peach are close on their heels. Tara and Wil get in an argument because Wil does not want to wait for Chris and Alex to make it through customs. Blake and Paige leave, as do Cyndi and Russel. Oswald and Danny are really dragging. They have a hard time finding a bus to the sky train. Once on the bus, they ask a local student to help them find their way and she stays with the for the remainder of the episode.
Gary and Dave arrive first at the temple.
They get the detour. They can either choose Confusion Now or Confusion
Later. Confusion Now requires the teams to find a specific water
taxi dock. This task will be complicated, but then they must take
the taxi to a bird market and release some birds, which will be easy.
The Confusion Later option requires the teams to take a taxi to a specific
street in Chinatown, but then they must "buy a car and send it to their
ancestors at the Wat Leng Nei Yi Shrine. Teams must decipher that
the clue requires them to buy a paper car and burn it at the temple.
Gary and Dave go for the car, while Mary/Peach, Tara/Wil, and Chris/Alex
go for the water taxi. Cyndi and Russel arrived at the same time
as
Mary/Peach,
and decided on the same detour option, but they left in a different direction
from Mary/Peach. This would prove to be their fatal mistake by the
episode's end. Gary and Dave quickly discover they must buy a paper
car, but they find a furnace and burn the car. When they recieved
no route info, they were confused. Eventually they realized they
must have burned the car in the wrong place. So they went back and
bought another one, as Blake and Paige arrived and bought theirs.
This time, Gary and Dave got the right furnace, and got their clue. They must go to the Wat Khao Chang Phran Temple in Ratchaburi, Thailand by public bus. Blake and Paige, however, have the same trouble that Gary and Dave did. Not once, but twice. They managed to get it right on the third try.
Meanwhile, Tara and Wil and Chris and Alex have made their way to the bird market and found the clue, as do Mary and Peach soon after. They all get buses to Ratchaburi.
Gary and Dave and Chris and Alex arrive at the same time in Ratchaburi. They both get a tuk-tuk taxi to take them to the temple. What follows is a somewhat amusing scene in which Gary and Dave playfully heckle Chris and Alex while Chris and Alex look at them as if they are from another planet. Soon, Chris and Alex's tuk-tuk breaks down, and Gary/Dave move out into first place.
Oswald and Danny and Cyndi/Russel have finally got on a bus to Ratchaburi. Meanwhile, Gary and Dave are very confused at the temple. They cannot find the route marker flag. Chris and Alex arrive and spot the flag immediately, as do Mary and Peach. Its time for the roadblock. This week they must put on a mask and boots and make their way deep inside of a bat and roach infested cave to retrieve the route info. Gary and Dave spot them and all three teams enter the cave at about the same time. They all complain a little about the bats and bugs, but Gary/Dave and Chris/Alex get out of the cave quickly and Peach is not too far behind. They now have to make their way to the Ban Plai Plong Pang traditional water house by long boat, the pit stop for this week.
Wil performs the roadblock, then Blake. They make their way to the
boats. Oswald and Danny arrive, and get the clue without too much
trouble, but they have trouble finding a taxi to the boats. Cyndi
performs the roadblock and its looking as if they might actually have a
chance. Chris and Alex, in a reveral of fortune, are first this week.
Mary and Peach arrive soon after, followed by Tara and Wil and Blake and
Paige. Gary and Dave, who were once in first place this episode,
fell to fifth. In the final moments, a boat pulled up and it was
Oswald and Danny who took the sixth place spot. Cyndi and Russel
became the fifth team eliminated. They were emotional, expressing
how much fun it was and how it allowed them to do things they wouldn't
normally do. They express their love for each other. I'm going
to miss them.
