Some Words of Wisdom
notes from a class

Omar ibn Abdul Aziz said, anyone who wants to be my companion must have five virtues: He must:
- be an enabler and promoter of justice
- be a helper to me in everything that is khayr, not an obstacle
- convey to me the needs of others who are unable to do so
- mention no one negatively in front of me (no gheebah)
- delivers the trust I give him, and the trust the people give him

Shaytan told Musa (as) that when a son of Adam: has an ego (relies on his nafs), does the opposite of what is pleasing to Allah, and forgets his sins (does not regret them, seek repentance, etc), then he is the easiest for shaytan to control.

But shaytan warned, do not be alone with someone of the opposite gender, when you promise Allah you will do something, do it with no delay, and if you plan to give sadaqah give it.

Then he left and said; woe to me, I have taught Musa my tricks and he will tell his people.

Besides truth, there is nothing but misguidance (dalaal)

Umar ibn Abdul Aziz in the moment of his death was asked if he left something behind for his children, he said: if they are good pious people, Allah will provide for them, and if they are not, they deserve nothing.

For the believer- in times of good, they show shukr and in times of bad, they show sabr

If we are in a state of fear or sadness, we should check our attitude.

If one follows guidance, one will be at peace with himself, Allah, the rest of the world.

A person who would be in difficulty in this life is the one who is always striving for dunyaa- and he will never feel like he has enough- he will live his life disatisfied always- no kanaa'

No matter what a person owns, he will always be in a state of poverty because he will always be in need.  Allah cannot be in the heart of the person because dunyaa will already be there- and dunyaa and Allah cannot be in the same heart.

Every son of Adam sins, but when we are reminded, we should change- that is the true believer.
