My
Story – How
my life has guided me into a path of service and healing:
I realized at quite a young
age that I perceived
the world differently then others. My senses were heightened and I knew
things
that I didn’t understand. I was a challenge to my parents, as they were
perplexed
by my questions and view of the world. I felt a deep connection to
nature, and
was able to feel energy shifts in the environment as well as in people.
A turning point in my youth
took place, at the age
of eight. I was playing with my best friend when I got a vision that he
was
sick and going to die. I tried to pass this intuition onto the adults
in my
life. They passed it off, as a child who was talking nonsense. A year
later my
friend collapsed, and sadly, died. He had a brain tumor that had been
growing
over the past year which resulted in his death. This had a profound,
yet
painful, effect on my life. The impact of this experience was
overwhelming for
me. I withdrew into a space of trying to repress my senses. Childhood
ensued. I
continued to have occasional glimmers of intuitive knowledge. I learned
to keep
it to myself and attempted to blend, always feeling different from my
peers. I
was able to find balance through the expression of art and connecting
to
nature. I attended Rhode Island School of Design where I received my
BFA. Yet I
always felt that I had a higher purpose then working as an artist.
I am of the belief that
everything happens for a
reason. All events have learning and are there to open us up to new
possibilities and opportunities. A major shift in my life grew out of a
near
death experience as I delivered my first child over 25 years ago. My
uterus
ruptured. This was quite traumatic, as I had planned a natural birth
and a
positive experience. At the same time it gave me a new appreciation for
life,
my gifts and propelled me into a new direction. My recovery was
difficult which
lead me to alternative practices. My journey back to health was
influential in
my development as a healer. I took trainings in Reiki, Aromatherapy,
Reflexology,
Herbs, Art Therapy, Koshu Ryu Kempo, Qigong and Yoga. I investigated
Homeopathy, Acupuncture, Ayurvedic Medicine and Eastern Philosophy. I
practiced
and gained experience using these techniques. Through divine
intervention, I
was guided to formalize my training in Eastern Medicine and Shiatsu.
This came
about after a period of meditation and prayer around the best use of my
creativity. I had just completed a busy and frustrating season working
as an
artist. I felt I was compromising my creativity to produce a marketable
line of
products. I was in a phase of soul searching and I was seeking
guidance. At the
time I thought that I wanted to produce art that sent out healing
vibrations in
the form of large scale one of a kind gallery work. Sometimes messages
come in
profound and unexpected ways. I was shopping at Whole Foods (Bread and
Circus)
when a book fell off of the shelf and landed at my feet. There was
magnetism
about this book that I could not deny. Now, as I look back, I believe
it was
dropped at that moment by a divine guardian angel. This book was my
first
glance at Shiatsu. I could have very easily returned this book to the
shelf as
my left-brain reminded me that I was there to purchase food. I listened
to my
intuition and stuck it in the carriage. When the cashier rung up the
book he
commented that a shiatsu school had just opened up near by and that
there was a
poster on the way out advertising the open house to take place the next
day. I
attended the open house and without a second thought, found myself
signing up
to take the program, which began the following week. From that moment
on, my
life transformed.
Shiatsu
and the circular
science of Chinese
Medicine made perfect sense to me. The concepts that were hard for some
to
grasp, came second nature to me. I could sense and feel the energy
pulsating
through my meridians. I immediately could sense what acupoints were
active and
whether they were excessive or deficient in nature. The process and
learning
was so easy for me that the director of the school asked if I would be
his
apprentice and assist in teaching classes after completing my first 2
classes.
I immediately started to create and channel new techniques that had a
profound
effect on the body. I had no idea that my true creativity would be
channeled in
this way. This was my first step towards making a bigger contribution
to the
world then I could ever imagine. My background in art had
given
me creative expression in the world. This was infused into the way that
I approached my life, my treatments and how I teach. I began to look at
the body as a piece of art. Each piece beautiful and unique and needing
tender loving care to prevent stress and dis-ease. My medium became the
power of touch and a listening ear. I began to use
my
creativity to design new techniques allowing me to manifest a
healing dance with
body, energy and spirit. My goal being to empower
and
restore
each individual I touch to their true nature and health.
The story continues as I have had many adventures pursuing my passion for assisting others on their journey towards transformation and health. Unbelievable experiences in Arizona as I was guided to study the Native traditions. My personal vision quest as I have searched my own soul and the journey into living up to, and the changing of my name. Spirit Web is the name given to me by several native healers none of which knew each other. It has been said that to live into my medicine (The ability to weave body and spirit together as a cohesive whole) I needed to take on the name. It took me several years of getting this message sent to me in different forms before I actually changed my last name to Web. My shamanic journey continued as I studied the Incan traditions. Then there was my month in Maui learning Lomi–Lomi Massage and the traditions of the Kahunas, were I had another brush with death. I was doing ceremony with native healers at the sacred birthing pools which were naturally carved over time by the waves into the side of a 50 foot cliff. We had to use ropes to climb down into this area which is known only to the natives. It was a calm clear day, when out of no where I Iooked up at a 30 foot wave quickly approaching. I had no time to move so I opened up my arms to embrace the impact. I was picked up into the air and slammed down onto the rocks of the natural pool where I was ping ponged around and almost washed over the cliff which would have been a drop to the ocean. I was able to hold onto a rock as the wave washed over me. I climbed off the cliff edge with just a few scratches and bruises. I was told that it was a miracle that I survived especially without any broken bones or need for stitches. The fact that I was able to hold on and not get washed over the side with the force of the wave was seen as a blessing from the divine. I had been gifted with the healing power and energy from the sea. This encounter with a force of nature was one of the most powerful experiences of my life.
All
of my expereiences have
altered my reality and
guidied me on my journey towards contributing
to
others. and hopefully making a difference in the world. The
art
of healing has become my vehicle for expression although I still use
the art of photography and collage to express myself
emotionally
and spiritually.
My
Personal
Philosophy
I believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. It is our goal on earth to be joyful, share love and make a difference in the world. The path to happiness is a road to self–realization and acceptance. True health involves the discovery of balance within. As we learn to accept that our life experiences are part of our spiritual learning, manifesting in our human existence, we enter into a space of harmony and ease. Self love and compassion expands beyond us and contributes to the health of humanity and ultimately points to the health of the planet. Through the restoration of our holistic nature we can live more relaxed, in health and have a sense of purpose within the world. It is my life purpose to make a difference through guiding others into this space of peace and harmony.
