| INDONESIA
Located between Malaysia and Australia, the Indonesian Archipelago is made
up of more than 13,000 islands, the best known of which are Bali, Irian Jaya,
Kalimantan, the Moluccas, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, and Sumatra.
For divers Indonesia offers coral gardens, walls, ridges, caves, underwater
volcanoes and wrecks, vivid basslets, butterfly fish, parrot fish, tuna,
octopi, eels, manta rays, turtles, and whale sharks.
The Bunaken Manado Tua Marine Park, Bangka and the Bentenan Islands have
some of the finest coral reefs in the world, while Komodo and the Alor
Islands offer relatively unexplored and pristine dive sites.
The reefs surrounding Lembeh Islands have become the destination of choice
for underwater photographers in search of unique macro subjects; wasp fish,
pygmy seahorse, nudibranchs, and frog fish to name a few.
To the north is the Sangihe Archipelago, volcanic islands covered by coconut
palms. Here you will find the deepest and clearest water on the planet
and encounter large pelagics and possibly whales. The semi-active
underwater volcanoes are releasing silver gas bubbles into the sea, an
amazing sight.
