| COCO ISLAND
The Cocos Island are located 600 km. off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Of the islands of the Eastern Tropical Pacific (Cocos, Clipperton, Malpelo
and Galapagos) Cocos is the only one that receives sufficient rainfall to
support a tropical rainforest. Steep black cliffs, fringed by
dense green vegetation and thundering waterfalls make up the island. The
islets around the island serve as nesting grounds for marine birds like the
Boobies, Seagulls and Noddies. The island has 74 species of birds,
three that are endemic, the Cocos Island Flycatcher, a Cocos Island Finch,
and the Cocos Island Cuckoo.
Ever since it was first discovered Cocos Island has been a destination for
the adventuresome. It is a unique, remote destination for the serious thrill seeking
diver. The transparent waters around Cocos are swirling with pelagic activity.
Renowned for large parades of hammerheads, clouds of jacks, manta rays, and schools of
tuna.
Weather permitting, the crew will shuttle divers ashore to
explore the uninhabited island which is a World Heritage Site.
The currents can be really strong, the water cooler, but if you are looking
for an action packed adventure, this is the trip!
