| TURKS & CAICOS
Located at the southeastern end of the Bahamas Islands chain, this
archipelago of 40 small
sandy islands, covering about 193 square miles of Atlantic Ocean, sit atop a shallow bank separated by a trench-like channel.
They are surrounded by a coral reef. The islands are made of 2 groups
of island, the Turks Island and the Caicos Islands. There are 8
inhabited islands; Salt Cay, Grand Turk, South Caicos, Middle Caicos, North
Caicos, Providenciales, Parrot Cay and Pine Cay.
The name Turks comes from the indigenous Turk's Head "fez"
cactus, and Caicos is a Lucayan term "caya hico," meaning string of islands
The Islands have the third largest coral reef system in the
world. Wall diving is paramount with huge sponges, healthy corals, and dense
populations of marine life and occasional large pelagics. Whales and
Walls covers it all! From thrilling wall dives, to the opportunity to
swim with Humpback Whales.
