Entry
Visitors must have a current passport valid for more than six months
beyond their intended stay, adequate funds to support themselves,
and an onward or return airline ticket. A Visa may be required
depending on your length of stay and nationality. Check with the
nearest embassy of the country you wish to visit before traveling.
Weather
The weather is warm and humid.
Sunshine throughout the year. Average temperature is around
82F. The year is divided into two monsoon periods; ruvai, the
north-east monsoon December-March, are the drier months; the ulhangu,
the south-west monsoon April-November, are the wetter months, with
more storms and occasional strong winds. The humidity is
slightly lower during the dry season, but most days there is a
cooling sea breeze.
Currency
The Maldivian currency is the Rufiyaa and Laaree.
Major credit cards and travelers checks are widely accepted.
Language
Dhivehi is the official language. English is widely
spoken and understood. In the resorts a variety of languages
are spoken, including German, French, Italian and Japanese.
Health
No vaccinations are required. However, if you are from a
Central African nation or South American, or if you have traveled through
these areas to get here you need to have a valid certificate indicating that
you have been vaccinated against yellow fever. If you want to be extra
careful, consult your personal physician for recommendations. The
water is drinkable, but most hotels offer bottled water.
Electricity
220-40V, 50 Hz. An adapter is recommended
for using appliances you bring with you.
Departure Tax
If the airport tax has not been paid as part of
your ticket, you need to pay US$12.00 at the airport. Only US$
Dollar is accepted.
