Entry
U.S. residents need either proof of citizenship such as a passport
or a birth certificate with positive ID. All other visitors must have
a current passport, and an onward or return airline ticket. Some
visitors may require a visa, check with the Mexican Embassy.
Getting there
Continental and Mexicana Airlines provide service from many gateways. You
can get there in 1 1/2 hours from Houston or Miami, or 5 hours from Los
Angeles. Direct flights available from many U.S. gateways.
Weather
Summers are warm, with temperatures in
the 90's July-Sept. Typical Dec-Jan temps are in
the mid 70's, however, fronts do blow through on occasion creating cloudy
and windy weather. The rainy season with light showers mostly in the
afternoon or evening occurs May-Oct.
Water
Water temperatures 77-82F throughout
the year.
Diving Levels
Diving in Cozumel ranges from shore diving to as deep as you are certified
to dive. All dives in Cozumel are drift dives.
Visibility
Visibility in the waters of Cozumel are 100 plus feet.
Currents
The current varies from reef to reef, and day to day.
Currency
The Pesos is the currency, but US $ are accepted almost anywhere.
Major credit cards and travelers checks are widely accepted.
Language
Spanish is the official language, but English is widely spoken and
understood.
Health
No vaccinations are required. Cozumel's water comes from underground
wells. Do not take any chances drinking water from the tap, as you
will be subject to different bacteria than you are used to at home.
Bottled water is available anywhere. Use it for drinking, and tooth
brushing.
Electricity
110 volt, as in the US, but adapters are useful as three prong outlets are
not widely available.
