Entry 
To enter Costa Rica, a valid passport is required.  Check with the nearest Costa Rican consulate prior to departure to determine if a visa is necessary.

Climate
The rainy season is from May through November. Cocos Island supports a true tropical rain forest and receives an abundance of rain, particularly around the mountain peaks. Overcast skies and frequent showers are common.

Currency
Even though Colones are the official currency, US dollars are widely accepted in tourism areas.  Also major credit cards and travelers checks are accepted widely.

Language
The official language
Spanish,  but English is widely understood.

Diving
Diving around Cocos Island is more difficult due to its ruggedness and currents. Diving from the dinghies has advantages, but can be physically challenging for some.  May through October is generally considered prime diving, but conditions are generally good all year round.

Water
During the winter, water temperatures range between 73-78F, while in the summer it warms up to 78-80F.  Visibility is between 50-80 feet.

Departure tax
The international departure tax is $26, payable at the airport.

Health
There is no malaria in Costa Rica and no vaccinations are necessary.  Drinking water is safe in cities and resorts.

Electricity
110 volts, 60Hz.
