Entry
A valid
passport as well as a return or onward ticket are required to enter Fiji. Depending on the nationality of the visitor, a
Visa might be required. Check with the nearest Fijian embassy before departure.
Visitors must also have a sufficient
amount of funds to cover their planned stay in the territory.
Climate
Fiji enjoys a tropical climate that can get hot in
the summer but seldom reaches above 96F. Trade winds bring cooling
breezes year around. The cool, dry months are from May-October.
The "winter" begins in July. During July and August temperatures may
drop between 70-75F. The tropical rains coincide with the warmer
"summer" months December-February. During this time it may rain nearly
every day.
Water
The water temperature averages between 72- 82F.
Diving is superb year-round, but expect more rain during the
December-February months.
Currency
The Fijian dollar is the official currency. Major credit cards and travelers checks are accepted
almost everywhere.
Language
Fijian is the official language, but Hindu and English are
spoken as well.
Diving
Most dives are made from a dinghy.
Departure tax
There is a $30 departure tax, payable in Fijian currency.
Health
Fiji is free from malaria, yellow fever and major tropical
diseases that are endemic to most tropical countries. Certificates of inoculations against cholera, yellow fever are required for visitors arriving from an infected area.
Fresh water reticulated in Suva, Nadi, Lautoka and the other
major towns has been treated and is safe to drink from the tap.
Bottled water is available
everywhere.
Electricity
Electricity in resorts is 240 volts, 50 cycles AC. Some
resorts and live-aboards may have 110 volt outlets for use as well.
